I don't think they look bad at all! My only question though is, are you planning on window treatments for the other windows on either side? I would suggest running a rod high across the entire wall and hanging panels on both sides and in between the sliders and windows on either end. It would dress the whole area beautifully. This is as crude as it gets, but, you get the idea, i hope! P.S., is that your DH practicing for "A Chorus Line"? LOL!

My original plan was to NOT do anything to the arched curtains, and just dress up the door a little. Now I'm wishing I had listened to parmas (?) advice and put roman shades on the arched windows and nothing on the french doors.

I don't know...I could return the 84" and get the 120" (ior 96?). But then there would be lovely holes from the current curtain rod to deal with :(

Holes, schmoles! That's why they make Patch Master, Lol! Another thing to do while your husband is away! How high is it from the top of the window frame on the arches down to the floor? That would help determine the curtain length. I must have missed the other thread with Parma's advice. I will go back and read.

I hadn't remembered saying anything about Romans (though I do love them) so I did a search for the OP. It was Les that made the suggestion.

I don't think the panels look heavy at all. What I don't like are the dumb builders who never line the windows up correctly. We have that problem in our new house. It would have been better to have the bottom of the arched transom be at the same level as the top of the doors.

Personally, I don't like the look of a pole over an arched transom. It's a trade off, though. Depends how much you want the extra height.

Parma, I totally agree with the windows being the same height! Especially on the same wall!
kbmas0n, Using 14" decorative rods would eliminate that look of the pole stretching across the wall. Hanging the rods at the same height would trick the eye and make the windows 'appear' the same height.

I cannot blame our builders. *sigh* It was me. We had "regular" windows next to the french doors, and at the last minute, I decided that I wanted something fancier. And I have regretted it as soon as I saw what a PAIN curtains were going to be.

Parma - I'm with you. I don't love the look of the pole over the arch. It looks a bit silly to me, but I agree that it would definitely draw the eye up.

I think part of the problem is the curtain look like they will interfere with the opening/closing of the doors. The curtain overwhelm and it looks like the doors are "squished in". IMHO doors should not have drapes at all.

If you need privacy I would put lightweight Roman shades on the door or those curtains with the rod on both the top and bottom so they don't swing around when the door is opened/closed.

Then use either Roman shades or drapes for the windows. Use two rods, one for each window. Put the rod across at the top of the window and not on the wall over the arch. This give you privacy and leaves the arch open for light. The arch is high enough no one can see in. Having the rods over the windows hung lower, at the same height as the curtains/shades on the door, would look better I think. I would not do one long rod across the whole area. I hope I explained this well.

I like the Kmcg's mock up of raising the drapes & adding more panels to the sides. Whether or not you keep the drapes I would add wood roman shades - mount them on the trim where they will make your windows all look even. I think Target has some cute ones. The wood would tie into your brown leather chair.

The shorter rods would go on the wall, up high on either side of the door and windows. 4 panels total. I know some here have those rods in their rooms. Hopefully they will post a pick. I can't think of whom, but I can picture their room! (hey, does that ryhme?)

I might try something tonight...the rod was supposed to extend to 120", which obviously we haven't extended it that far. We tried to add the mddle rod that was in the package, but it would fit and we didn't really try very hard to make it fit. Now I'm wondering if I could make the middle rod work...if it would push the panels out further on either side of the door, making it look less scrunched...

Do I recognize a "what are you doing now" look in your dh's eyes? lol

I didn't even see dilly's post until just now! I don't know how I missed it, but I agree...it's a good one! I am just terribly afraid that it will look goofy to have a rod in front of that thick white section between the arch and the main window.

I might have to wait until DH starts his travels again (thursday) and just DO it. Poor thing.

I like dilly dally's suggestion as well. To add to that, I think it would look wonderful to put use rod pocket drapes for the arched windows and pull it all across to the outer sides hanging those drapes below the arches as dilly dally suggested.

I'm baaaaaaaaack. I went away for a conference for a day and a half and I'm already on page three! This board does move fast!

So...my husband is fed up. This isn't exactly the first time I have jumped the gun and then tried to get him to fix it for me. He said that we need to live with it for at least a month, and then if I still want to move the rods up, or take them down completely and put rods somewhere else, fine. He'll help me then. And I'm fine with that. It seems reasonable.

I did, however, find some different drapes, just to see what they would look like. They are a darkish green with a hint of gold in them. I don't know if they clash with my sofa or compliment in the same sort of family. My husband loves them, but errr...

What do you think? Too dark?

I love the darker panels! You could always add a couple of throw pillows to your sofa and/or chair that contain maybe a stripe of the same green color, helping to tie everything together nicely.

BTW, I cracked up when I saw the photo of your DH looking at the camera. He's totally got this "Help meeeeeeee - she's decorating again!" expression in his eyes!

Great choice! I think these panels add some interest to your room (the first ones were just blending with the walls, IMHO). You said at some point that you could extend the rod... I think you should try that - you could then pull the panels little to the sides so they only cover the door frames (but not the door). There should also be some room at each end of the rod (the decorative part would be more visible). Just my 2 cents...

I like the darker ones much better.
