shower design help (cross posted to baths)

my bath floors are a light honed travertine 16X16. the shower is 5' long and not sure of the width. there are no windows in this bath. I am wanting to do a slate gray 12X12 tile on the walls with a border incorporating the light and dark (mostly light) travertine color. the border will be marble tiles (4X4) in a caramel blended color and this is the mosaic i am looking at adding to the top in a single strip. I will also add this mosaic in a border on the floor around the edge of the room. what do you think?

Pretty tile. Looks like more browns...not sure about this with gray. Instead of as a border around the edge of the room, how about making a faux rug on the floor using this tile as a border?

I agree with jmck-nc.....a mosiac rug on the floor for the checker board tile would be appealing to the eye....I would not use it on the walls. Even using it as a square pattern around the shower faucet would be cool! Maybe somthing a little more .......traditional....that will outlast time....see the link...

Hi all, I am hoping some members of this forum may be able to brainstorm a few ideas to help me with my remodel. The full description of our family, and our house, are in this post. From your description it is definitely time to move on. You are certainly ready to move on and when the trust has been broken to this extent there's no reason not to. For whatever reason you are a low priority and will probably stay that way. This goes beyond the job taking longer than expected and gets into non-performance issues. Starting a project a year past the promised date without approval from the client is definitely unacceptable. Issues with tile suppliers could mean cash flow trouble and you really don't want to go there. The cabinet company may have cut him off too. Even in good times contractors have credit issues and it's gotten a lot worse in these tough times. You don't want to give an advance on construction only to see that disappear. There are numerous posts on this site about that problem. Are you sure he owns the design? If you paid a design fee apart from any purchases then you should get copies of the design. You should at least request copies. Be insistent and even blunt about it. You paid for the design and you are entitled to what you paid for.

We have to tear up a lot of the slab anyway to run the toilet plumbing and move the shower drain. My contractor was thinking build up the shower at the exterior wall and use a trench drain near the shower door but I'm not sure of that looks wise. I agree Sophie. I can't think of another way except how I described above...of course being inexperienced with this type of project I'm not sure if there's a different solution. John would you mind explaing further how that could affect it?
