When is it time for dad to have a life of his own?

I've been married to my husband for 4 yrs. I moved from a southern state to NY just to try to make things work out. I have 3 sons, 2 are in college and the 3rd is in middle school. They stayed in our home & I came on over to make a life. My problem: My husband just can't stop from playing DAD to his boys even when they live right across the street. What I mean is -- WHEN the EX calls (almost daily) my husband does "little errands" for her while claiming that it's to benefit his sons. He baby's these middle school boys and when they're here they talk to him in baby-ese voices. But once he turns around they talk normally. While they're here he turns into a totally different man: ignores & belittles me. When we talk about apt. or house-hunting he's accused me of trying to take him away from his family. Let me mention that we have a 1 yr old between us & he tends to "discipline" our little one while his 2 run rampage around our apt. Guess who tends to feel like a maid?! I don't want to admit failure but what can I do?
