I've been cutting mirrors all day

( Well - for the last hour or so. ) Boy - is that ever tricky -- trying to cut when the line is reflecting back at you on an angle ... plus I have an overhead light ... plus - I'm looking at myself while I'm cutting ! LOL

I'm in such a creative slump lately , I found an abstract mirror online that I fell in love with. ( I posted the site before) I'm embarrassed to say I'm copying it. It's giving me a good kickstart to get back at my glass. Of course - it won't be exact , I put my own spin on it , but it's VERY close. This is just for my own personal wall - I would never copy someone's idea and sell it. Can you tell I'm feeling guilty ? Excuses , excuses ...... LOL

I think it's just the medicine I Need right now . I've been working with the bandsaw and scroll saw ... now my glass. Besides having to shovel 8" of snow ~ I'm loving this !!! I hope this feeling lasts ~~ *thumbs up* !!

Peat makes an excellent preservative. The modern horticultural practice of using a sterile medium like peat is in order to create a hydroponic environment, that can force-feed plants into rapid production. I've found a few nurseries who grow in-pot organically, and they avoid peat. I don't see large chunks of pine bark in their soil medium, either. Some use rainwater to irrigate, most are wholesale and at least one is open to the public. Transplanting and establishment ease have been outstanding with these trees grown organically with a comost-based medium. Some use pots that are designed to eliminate circling roots. This is a far superior product, that establishes and plants easier, than any tree grown in peat, or in a plastic pot. It's really a leap were speaking of, for a root to make the transition from an extremely acidic, sterile medium to a nearly neutral, live mineal soil. It ain't natural, and creates unnecessary stress on the plant when it needs it least-- during root establishment. But we grow potted plants in peat, anyways. Modern horticularal practices do not serve the grower so well, Most of the potted trees and plants you'll find in a retail nursery, have been force fed to grow lots of pretty foliage, in a poor soil medium, with underdeveloped and potbound roots. I know peat is good at preserving cave people and tubulars. But as a potting medium, it's used becasuse it is thought to be cheap, and that's the bottom line. There are conflicts of interest between the grower and the hulticulturalist who pushes peat as a pot medium. A lot of the carp they teach in hort school (and ag school, and other fields), has a bias towards perceived economic benefits, and can ignore for years, better, sounder science. I don't know what i'm going to do - she's already been buying litte outfits! I did give her a gift bag full of baby things for Christmas, making sure that i added some Toronto Maple Leaf socks (Eddie's a Montreal fan, the traitor...). I have a blanket made and i also have a little dress that was supposed to be a gift for someone else and never quite made it. Since she will be a summer baby, she won't need much in the line of sweaters and blankets. I'm going to ask Mike if he'll attempt making a change table for them. We have a crib that he made and a cradle that a friend made, so they'll have that. I can fix up sheets and things and maybe my mother-in-law will do a little quilt. Still waiting for her to have the ultrasound to find out for sure that it's a girl - the ring on a chain said it was! :)

Hi Anj, Not what you needed right now, huh? We've already had it here. GD, DS, and DIL all had it, then I kept the GD and ended up with it. Vomiting and diarrhea only lasted over night--took it easy the next day, then was fine. Not sure how, but DH escaped it. Lucky him! Sorry your DD may have to miss her program at school. Know she will be disappointed. The bright side is that all three got it at once so now it will be over with--IF you or DH can avoid it! I'll keep my fingers crossed for luck. I don't seem to be getting much done, sure no painting, even though there were still projects I wanted to do. I've kept the GD quite a bit lately. Most of the shopping and wrapping are done--just a couple more things to pick up. Got to deliver my gifts for the neighbors--maybe Saturday or Sunday. I'll be working at the store Thurs. & Fri.--possibly Sat. too. We're going over to DS's on Christmas Eve for dinner (I'm taking the food) and Christmas movies and then early Christmas morning to watch GD open her gifts and play with all her new stuff. They said it would be easier for them to do it all at their house, and DH and I are flexible so it is fine with us. Having only one son makes things pretty simple. GD is so excited about it all this year. Couldn't wait to "touch" the pretty lights. Loved the tree in the living room--kept saying "what's it doing now, Daddy?" Not sure what she thought it would do! Ha ha Reluctantly agreed to sit on "Santa's" lap for her picture, and tells everybody "Ho Ho Ho--Merry Christmas!" We're loving every minute of it! Hope you get a chance for a nap today Anj. And sure hope you don't catch that "bug". Luvs

Lovely bloom and I see several more buds. I don't disbub my dahlias though have been told that doing so allows the remaining flowers to get larger. This year some critter is nipping the flower off. I find the flower with barely any stem on the ground. Today I cut the recent bloom shortly after it opened and brought it inside. Planted mine late as well so not many blooms yet. If I have lots of blooms and am expecting a frost I make bouquets to share with my neighbors. Had enough for eight bouquets last fall.

Doesn't sound like you're COPYING it, just using it for inspiration!
Keeping busy will lift your spirits and you'll be creating something wondeful in the process.
Post your "inspirational" mirror pic again. I don't remember it.

Dont feel bad.We have all used ideas from someone else. Like you say as long as your not trying to proffit from it or claiming at as your own design I dont see the harm.

I'm in love with this mirror .... I've made stuff like this before - only with foiling and leadwork . Here's her design .... isn't this gorgeous ? I just love "the flow"

TMG That is WONDERFUL!!! I would want to use it for inspiration too. WOW WOW WOW I can not wait to see what you do with it. OH MAN I LOVE this!!! Already saved to my inspiration file!!! Are you going to use the same colors? When you get it all figured out I will take one in turquoise and purple!!! :^)))

I've always believed that imitation is the HIGHEST form of flattery! If you're not selling it, or making a knock-off to profit from and it's for your own personal use I'd bet the original artist would not have any qualms at all :-)

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and since you can't do an exact it will be your interpretation of the original. I've no doubt the artist would be glad to help you get out of your slump, and love to see the finished product.

Besides we have all seen things in others work that inspires us to try. No harm no foul.

Get back to work, and quit feeling bad!!! ~: )

I soooo wanna do a similar idea with mirror and mosaic! I'm glad you are doing better!!! I have been on antidepressants for yrs now, since I was 6yrs clean and sober, I didn't know that all those yrs drinking and drugging were my way of covering up/coping with depression!!! LOL!

OMG! that is so cool! Very inspiring....I printed it out
for a future project too! I can see why it brought you out of your slump. I just got out of mine a few months ago, and haven't been able to stop myself since. I think having constant projects really helps keep my mind busy, and happy.
Get back to it TMG!
