for sale in NH, if anybody in the New England area is looking for a very high quality sofa.

P.S. Need I mention that it would go perfectly, size-wise, in my study??? But not right for me.

DH should be real dang glad that that wouldn't fit in this house. REAL dang glad, because budget or no budget I'd be over there with checkbook in hand. That is an excellent price for a near-new H&M couch - and I'll bet you a buck I can name the store they bought it from which is ex-pen-sive and rarely does anything as gauche as have a sale - and I love that boxy "English-library" Chesterfield style. Just not for this house... (Interesting how nice it looks combined with the Ikea Billy bookcases, no? Anyone else notice those?)

*wipes drool off chin*

If anyone is interested but would have to make a trek for it, I run "ovah to Dovah" pretty regularly (couple of times a week on average, it's maybe 15 minutes on a bad traffic day so it's no biggie!) and would be willing to go take a gander at it. And I promise I won't fondle it... TOO much. ;-)

Yes, there is a very definite seating difference between the standard Austin and the High Back models. The High Back is larger in all dimensions, not only height, and anyone over 5'10" generally prefers the High Back. However the sofa is large so make sure you have clearances to get it in your home. Price depends on the hide selected. Both are available in the Town and Country promotional grouping in Cavalier Oxblood, Cavalier Dark Blue, and Document Chestnut. Those are your best prices. Typically around $ 2,300 for the standard and another $ 300 for the tall back model in those hides. Price will go up if you select in the main handle. The Austin series is far and away the top-selling Hancock and Moore piece. Duane Collie

I also recently had the opportunity to purchase a used Hancock and Moore leather sofa. You can read the thread to see what others thought about the deal. As I understand Hancock and Moore leather sofas are some of the best out there. After calling around locally to get a better understanding of retail pricing, I snapped up the sofa. It is incredibly comfortable and the leather is very soft. I'm extremely pleased that we jumped on the deal when we did and I love the sofa. Assuming you've looked at the Reed sofa and concluded that it is in good shape and the style for you, I'd say $850 is a great price.

The leather on the back cushions has been stretched. To me it looks like kids have been jumping or sitting on the back cushions or perhaps the family dog sitting on top of the back cushions or they ended up on floor and were used as pillows. This is perhaps an example of where a 40 lb kid, jumping on cushions can stretch and ruin the leather of a sofa. You could also try heating up the back cushion casings with a hot hair dryer holding it about 6" away and moving it around. This may help a little. You may have to bring these to an upholsterer and ask them to recut the back cushion casings. If they are down blend filled back cushions you might try unzipping the back cushions, grabbing the back cushion cores and shaking them up. In my opinion this is a stretched leather issue and not a collapsing cushion core problem. Otherwise the sofa looks quite good. If you just add fill to the backs it will just end up bunching up and moving around and you won't be happy. You could show this to a local upholsterer and see what they say. You might also send these pictures to Hancock and Moore and see what they say. Perhaps they would recut the casings. They may only do this for an original owner. I am not sure. You could also ask Hancock and Moore if they would sell you new cushion cores or even provide them for free. I think they will replace cores for an original owner for free (which I guess you are not). I would send them these pictures. Another possibility is to purchased new back cushion cores which are overfilled (from an online cushion company of which their are several--you can google this), which if properly made could fill up the loose casings. I suppose you could experiment by adding some fiberfill to the existing cushion casings to see how this would look.

Gawd, don't tempt me, and don't drool on 'my' sofa!

Ever since I saw this, I have been wishing I had my Christmas Club money early - to spend all on me! I wish it was a bit longer - it's sort of between love seat and sofa size. I tried to find an online list of H&M dealers to see what it goes for new, but no luck. I know of Currier's and almost called them, but thankfully got involved in stripping the paint off my front door instead!

IF you happen to run into it...report back to us, will ya?

my3dogs, it's called an "apartment size" couch.

If you do end up shopping retail for leather furniture, DEFINITELY hit Curriers!! (They don't sell H&M though.) We bought a Bradington-Young couch and chair/ottoman there in 2002 when we were riding the gravy train for a bit and absolutely loved working with them - Jan Currier, the owner's wife, spent hours with us and was just wonderful. They have a (literal) bargain basement that often has some pretty good stuff along with the inevitable "what were they thinking???" items. (The last time I was there there was a burnt-orange Buddha-belly sectional that had to have been at least ten feet long on each side - with two ginormous matching recliners! DH and I both nearly wet ourselves laughing. Jan said it had been a special order that the customer had never finished paying for and so it had been sitting there for years. I wonder if they ever unloaded it.) Their prices beat the pants off anywhere else in the Seacoast, too.

Sorry, OSH, you won't be able to live vicariously through me on this one... it's waaaaaay too formal for this house, even if I had anywhere to put it! ("Your" couch is going in the kitchen sitting area once the LR sectional arrives, and then we'll be overloaded on the "big furniture" - I'll be getting rid of a couple of pieces. BTW, DH still calls you "the couch lady" and asks how you're doing every so often. :-))

Oh - Now I recall calling Currier's when I saw a set of CL leather sofas by BY. A man in Ogunquit was selling them as he was moving south. You could buy one or the pair. They were slightly curved, and quite deep. My 'furniture store' sister talked me out of them due to the depth, and my bowling alley living room.

Anyone know what this would retail for? OSH,I'm surprised you aren't on their door step, since it's the perfect size for your den, and you've been thinking about doing something to your couch! Fate had you find that listing!

Oh no....I just measured the outside width of my sofa, and this HM one is only a few inches shorter....The inside measurement on mine is longer, but... MUST forget this and go strip the front door. Keep repeating that....
