After thanksgiving update

Thanksgiving was great. Inlaws came in, sister did NOT have any melt downs, grandma was happy and I did NOT have to indure three hours of LSU kicking Arkansas butt on Friday -- which was good bc the mood was mostly angry and bitter that afternoon lol we got to go shopping!! First time in years. No long lines and no crazy pepper spray incidents. Lol my mom and mil bought all of my ideas for the kids so now I get to make a new list...

Dd came home on Sunday to a ready to decorate Christmas tree and pizza delivered. This made her extremely happy. Mil brought her a new shirt from Justice (favorite store these days) and a new journal. She has already documented all of her fun outings from last week. I guess with the business of decorating and the gleeful Christmas music, she had no time to have a bad night. Dd is a two pizza kind of girl and she had 5 slices. It amazes me how starved she is when she comes home!

All she has talked about is SM and stepsister and a little about her grandparents and cousins that she got to see. All good things. I asked about her bad day at school last Tuesday and she said it got better and that she just decided to hang out with a different girl. So she is over that. She did comment on what a great week she had since her grandparents were in town. She said dad was very tired and didn't seem himself but sm was very loving and pleasant and she had NO issues with her. Of course SM isn't going to be mean to Dd while her grandparents are there to witness. So sad that she has to go back again this weekend and hopefully things will stay the same instead of go back to the crazy ways that they normally are. I would be so pleased for Dd to have an SM that Loves and adores her and treats her well ALL the time instead of this back and forth crap!!

But I'm not going to complain. Just wanted to follow up. Dd has not had any melt downs since she has been home. She had a screaming match with DS over a toy but honestly if she wasn't screaming at him, I would think something is wrong.

I'm not naive enough to believe that things are better, I'm just embracing this time and the joy of a happy kid. I still dislike that Dd feels that she has to call me 'momma' and can't call me 'mom' because that is SM's name ONLY but I did finally speak up and say, you know, if you slip up and call me MOM I'm not going to complain or tell anyone. Afterall I am your MOM and if you want to call me mom too that is A-OK with me. She just smiled and said 'ok momma' lol poor kid...

Just wanted to update. Apparently it was a great week. :)

Glad you had a great time Myfampg.

My D13 loves Justice as well, they have such cute clothes!

But wait a minute - you mean your DD doesn't call you mom when she's at home with you? I can understand not referring to you when she's at her dad's house, but there's no reason she can't call you mom when she's home with you.

I agree with Amber, why can't she call you "mom" when she's with you? If this psycho sm has this much control over your dd.... I'd think something should be done.

Glad dd seems happier now.

I am a merchandiser for 3 companies & Wal-Mart is one of the stores I work in. The vendors have to be through by 5 a.m. - meaning some of them will be in at 3 a.m. or be off that day - or wait until after 3 or 4 p.m. Today, the day before Thanksgiving, has been crowded & tomorrow until about 11 will be as crowded. Workers & customers constantly getting in each other's way. Whew!!!! And, I'll have to go "pull up" a couple of more times today! I made the mistake of going to the day after sale & never again! First, you have to park 10 miles from the store. Then you get all the way to the door & find out that everyone's already taken all the shopping carts. Then, you have to inch around shoulder-to-shoulder crowds. When I went, I was buying 3 boys' bikes & a smaller girls' bike. They were in boxes & I liked to not have gotten them in my cart - so good luck finding someone to help you. Then, I had to fight through the crowds again to the cash registers, where I stood in line for an hour. Then, getting them through the parking lot - keep in mind people are constantly backing up & moving - & into the car. Again, never again! Last year, I made the mistake of having to go in for toilet paper or something - one item - & it took forever because of the long lines at the check outs (why don't they ever have all the registers going? is it just me?).

Anita sent: Lots of lollipops - my kiddos love them! A bunch of daylily seeds 2 voodoo lily bulbs A Milk + Honey brug A Frosty Pink brug (OMG - I can't WAIT to grow these!!!) Horrible. I see and hear of so many ATV accidents involving the death of children. I just don't think they should be allowed to ride on them, even as passengers. I just can't imagine the pain that family is facing. My heart goes out to them.

When all of our family (that lives here in town) always got together we would set up 3 or 4 tables and play pitch. Some would go through the paper to see what items they were going to head out for on Black Friday. and others would just sit and talk. But now each family has grown and we kind of just stayed with our own family. After losing 4 family members last year it went that way. I'm not liking it...I miss getting together with them all. My daughters are going to their spouses side of the family this year so it will be just our son and his girl friend with us tomorrow. One daughter will be coming later and we will have a game night Then on Saturday we will have another Thanksgiving day with the girls and Jeff if he wants. lol....aren't you sorry you ask. patti

If I remember correctly, MyFam and her DD decided to give 'mom' to SM and take a 'special name' for MyFam, one only used for MyFam. Afterall, 'mom' is just a word and no matter how many times SM makes MyFam not be called 'Mom' and makes DD call SM 'mom', Little MyFam might as well be calling 'mom' aka SM 'Joe' or 'Bob' because isn't no one other than 'Momma' MyFam ever going to be 'MOTHER'.

Glad she had a decent week with her grandparents and whatnot. I think it's still important that you keep the appointment with the therapist though. The girl has a whole lot of things I'm sure she'd benefit from talking through.Just because she did have the one good week visit could make the 'usual' not good visits that will lay ahead all that much harder to handle emotionally for her. She got a peek at how it should be, and now it will be right back to the reality of how it really is when no one (extended family) is around to have to impress and/or observing.
