Old stained glass projects....many moons ago!

How many have done this duck as a beginner in stained glass....!! That duck is 20 years old.....the two on the counter I did last year....and the big one is at least 18 years old.......drug those suckers all over the US. Need to figure out how to turn off the flash, ya think?

I'm luvin' that tree! I'm really into trees this year, don't know what that's about. Did the bonsai twice! Glutten for punishment...it was either that or let my sister take mine. So I made her one for Christmas. How did you make the stands for the ones one the counter?

I am currently making stained glass windows for several areas in my home. None that large though. You should find a stained glass artist to do this for you, and I would venture that it won't be cheap. Stained glass that big is also very heavy. As for energy efficiency, the stained glass panels I'm making will sit just inside the regular window with narrow 1/4 round tacked to hold it in place. The stained glass will NOT be the primary glass. It will be in addition to the regular glass in the window. I hope that makes sense. When we built our house, I had the window over our tub sized so that an antique stained glass panel from our old house will fit right inside the window frame. So the old window will slide right in, and held in place wit 1/4 round, or smaller strips of wood stained to match the woodwork.

I know where that is. I grew up near albany. so are you sure the moldings are oak? if they are they may have been stained. in general: arts and crafts homes are nearly always stained farmhouses (vernacular) are nearly always painted. I have seen victorian houses that have stained molding but the majority of them seem to have painted molding. usually higher quality wood was stained. Visit neighbors in the area. Do they have stained or painted wood? Lastly, it is up to you. If you want, why not just have stained molding in the more formal areas and then just have painted molding in bedrooms and less formal areas? That would work out nicely I would think. If you go to the library and look through books I am sure you can find pictures that would indicate to you what "type"of house you have. -renee

I finally got my walls painted. Trim still needs to be done. In the end, I couldn't get the Mercury Glass at Sears, so I had my BM dealer match it. They had a formula in their database, but it came out a little "off", so they matched it to the chip and it really looked identical (and I am very color sensitive). I had it done in Aura paint. The color is simply beautiful. It is light gray with a subtle lavender/violet undertone. In some lights it takes on a bluish cast. It is highly changeable. I would be happy to share the BM formula with anyone who wants it. It looks fabulous with the exposed brick chimney. I will try to take some pictures later, but I don't think the color will photograph very well. It is too subtle and complex. Now I have to choose a trim color, and I really think a white, even a creamy white, will be too stark and cold. The existing trim color is a 1940's (yes it's been that long since it was painted) peachy beige. I might do a toned down version of that, as it is rather interesting with the gray. WOW .......... those sure don't look like beginner projects . I think they are awesome ! My first project was such a laugh .....I'm embarrassed to even tell about it . The only good thing that a saving a beginner project is - to show how much better we've gotten ! LOL

Stoney...I GOT BALLS! In my two kitchen windows, I've hung blown glass balls from different artist instead of curtains...it's cheerful and fun...........

Rchovey...I really love trees too......in paintings, mosaics, stained glass.....anyway, the stands I bought at the stained glass shop..I've seen them on different mosaic/stained glass websites, however.

Nicethyme...Yep, that's agate in the round stained glass piece....love agate.

I did start out making the usual and customary suncatchers..and those things drove me nuts....so I got the duck pattern and it was actually easier for me to cut bigger pieces...and it was a simple pattern. The two on the counter were done last year.......

Thanks for the compliments..instead of being the domestic goddess on my day off from work, I putzed all day with projects and on a whim just took these old pictures to share. Hate housework.

Well, for hating housework, you kitchen looks pretty good in the picture(cleaner than mine).
Love the stained glass. The big one with the hummers is my favorite, though!

WOW Gypsy, You are one of many talents!! I think all of them are GREAT. I LOVE the flower one just because I am so into flowers.

And your BALLS lady WOW I saw them too and am so glad I read your reply about them. Very pretty. My rotten kitty would have a field day in that window. Guess he would get back at me for removing his.
