Martha Stewart precious metals paint
Comments (6)I used 2 different precious metals with great success. One was on an accent wall in a glass-walled room, the other in a small bathroom. Here are my tips for success: 1. Use extender. This slows down the dry time helping you avoid the streaking. 2. Use only long downward strokes. Other tips and videos on the web show rolling up and down and even in "V" strokes. Keep it very straight, steady, down only. First apply the paint, heavier than you usually would, then smooth with strokes that go all the way from the top to the bottom. I had 9' walls, so I used a step ladder and climbed down as the roller went down the wall. Move from left to right, overlapping the finish strokes to keep it as solid as possible. You will see some vertical "shadows" so keep your strokes and lines straight. 3. Use a small-nap roller. I don't think I used the Martha Stewart roller (the nap was too big and I wanted a smooth look). I found a small-nap roller for smooth paints. Don't use a foam roller, it puts bubbles in the paint. There are some high-density rollers that don't put so many bubbles, but they don't come in 9" lengths. I just sold that house, and everyone who came to look at it loved that wall....See MoreBlue wall paint on cover of May Martha Stewart Living
Comments (5)Have you checked "The Guide" in the back of the magazine? I checked on line, and it shows the May 2008 cover (see photo below). If that's the one, I'll try to help the only way I know how ;) Lowe's carries Martha's paint line now. Knowing Martha, she's probably using her own line of colors. ;-) I have the Lowe's software that contains her color palette. (Have some of the swatches but can't find them.) I've run through the blues in a sample room in the software, using a room that has white for comparison to the magazine cover photo. The closet ones I found are shown below. (Please keep in mind monitors and video cards will throw colors off, but she only has a few choices in blues that are that vivid, and looks like a hint of green it it. It is a pretty color!) Cover: "Summer Day" #MS281 "Splash" #MS284 "Blue Agave" MS336 "Open Sky" MS283 "Blue Aster" MS282 If I had to venture a guess, I'd say it's either Blue Agave or maybe Open Sky with lighting on it for photography. Hope that helps!...See MoreMartha Stewart paint
Comments (10)Have you asked Lowes if they still have the paint color in their computer system? After they removed the line, I had 3 MS colors mixed in the sample size. I know my local Lowes gets a lot of people who "float" that area, some that know the basics of the system, how to mix the paint, but may not be totally clued in on how to search for a color. Or just too lazy to do it. I know that there are good people who work there, but sometimes it's kind of the McDonalds of home improvement (just my opinion!). Also, it could be the spelling is wrong. The bird is actually a mourning dove, so the color might actually be mourning dove gray. That could be why they couldn't find it. If you have the color number, that might be even more helpful. You might want to consider asking at Sherwin Williams. Back in the early 2000's they carried a version of Mourning Dove from MS's paint line. The word on the street is that they'll still mix Martha's old colors. Their paint sample is something like $4 for nearly a quart of paint....See MoreMartha Stewart Color coordinated paints
Comments (6)Have any of you tried her "trim" and "ceiling" colors with success? Seems like a cool idea though I can't imagine buying paint to do every ceiling a slightly different color white. I will have to check out BM's affinity. I was just in there the other day. I just like the ability to choose a white and a gray and a tan and know they will all go together nicely. I looked on HD website for her products and I saw a few but they were not listed by the symbols. Does anyone know an easy way to search for those:? I am not buying her carpet but i would be interested to see which colors she recommends for the paint colors I am thinking about....See Morepaigect
