what would you do?

I have posted in other posts that BM went back to school and got a Social Work degree; now here's the rest of the story.....

Getting a degree in Psychology or a related field and being a Family Counselor has been a goal/dream of mine for a very, very long time. I had actually gone back to school to continue my AA degree and begin working towards my Psychology degree, in fact, I had even declared my major as Psychology.

At the time BM was in the same college and initially was working on a graphic design degree. Within the 1st semester after I began going back to school, BM changed her degree to Social Work... coincidence????

After the moving around and now that I am caring for my grandson as well, I have not been able to get back to school to continue working on my degree beyond my AA (although I did complete that... YEAH!). In the meantime, I feel hurt, frustrated, and (I know this will sound irrational) violated by all of this! This was MY goal, MY area of interest... and now SHE has a degree!

It has been my goal for the past 20 years to pursue that degree... my extended family all knows this, my husband knows this... I have been raising my children for the past 20+ years and figured it would wait until they were older... well, now they are older and I was ready to jump back in!

At this point, though, I just don't know if I want to continue on that path. I have many other interests and areas of education I would like to pursue as well, and have considered going another direction.

My irrational thinking on this is that if I do go back and continue to pursue my degree in Psychology, that now since BM has completed her's in Social Work, I will be the one who is seen as having alterior motives for my schooling (to "copy" her or gain insight into the "system" in the event of another custody battle, etc.) This is just simply not the case, but it still bothers me!

I just needed to get this off my chest. I know that my thinking and feelings are probably way off base and there is no rational reason to feel so threatened by this, but the thoughts and feelings are there...

What would you do?
