mineral spirits film

I stripped side rails of a 1940's bedframe. I used Stripeez and then mineral spirits to get rid of the residue. Now there's a milky residue. How do I get rid of it? I tried sanding - that didn't work. I would like to stain it and then use wipe on poly. Thanks.

Try lacquer thinner instead of mineral spirits. Use some 3/0 steel wool, wipe up the goo immediately, with the grain; try to have whole surface "wet" at the same time (to prevent lap marks)
Stripeeze is one of those paste type strippers, IIRC? I avoid those, using only the liquid type- Kutzit's my fave. It rinses off way easier than the heavy kind.

Sounds like left over wax. Either more mineral spirits or a 'hotter' solvent should remove it.

Go ahead and test a patch in an out of the way area or on an "off cut". Then leave it for a day or two. See if there is any discolouration or loss of sheen. The discolouration and chemical etching are what you are looking for. Personally I would drop by Walmart or Lowe's/Home Depot and pick up a $2 bottle of mineral spirits just to be absolutely sure I don't mess up my newly laid floor.

Mineral spirits is not an oil....it's a solvent for oil.....and very flammable. But now that you have washed and aired them out, that is no longer a danger. The smell will come out with washing and air drying. Did you put them through a full cycle....rinse and all? And are you SURE it was mineral spirits? In my experience the smell is gone when the cloth dries out.
