As a teacher I saw that reportcards many times had to be mailed to both parents, but I did not see other notices being mailed to both. Does the school have a website where you could look for that info? Most schools do have websites where they put important info like that.

Good idea. I just checked and they do have a pretty nice website. The "events" calendar for the year just shows the days in which school is closed so far. And they did have the Open House on there which was tonight...and we missed. I guess I will just have to call and ask when picture day is and how I can get a separate order form.

Oops...typed too fast. I meant to put as my daughters friends teacher does. I have seen that my daughters friends divorced parents both get reportcards but not other notices. For pictures and such they just have to share info.

We have custody of SD and whenever a bulletin comes out, I make a copy and mail it to BM. The bulletin shows dates of school events, picture day, minimum days & holidays. If BM wants her own picture order form, she can call the school directly. (our school sends bulletins to email addresses, has a website with information and BM picks up SD, or is supposed to, from the school three Fridays a month so she can go into the office and get her own copies of anything, talk to the teacher, etc.) Since most notices go out on Friday, she usually sees them before we do. However, I believe it is the parent's responsibility to keep themselves informed of their child's school stuff. Sending her bulletins is a courtesy but I don't think it's the CP responsibility. (I sent her info on conferences last year and she only scheduled one conference and then didn't even show up for it) The only exception would be a CP that has sole legal custody. If there is joint legal custody, then each parent can keep in contact with the school and get their own information.

It's nice if both parents can get along and exchange this stuff but it's not worth the headache if the CP doesn't do it. The school can mail it directly to the NCP or the NCP can go to the school and keep themselves informed. If the parents don't get along, then this can become a source of distention.

Don't count on the school actually doing it. For several years, I was asked to sign paperwork which should have ensured that the school would send my exH copies of just about everything that went home. I don't know if he ever got anything. Several times he was not even notified of team meetings, in clear violation of the law, and wouldn't have known about them if I hadn't checked to make sure he received the notice. And then on one occasion they didn't bother to tell me or him about a team meeting they had scheduled (at a time when neither I nor their father could make it) until about 48 hours before the meeting.

Ask the teacher for a meeting and share your concerns if you have joint custody most schools will make sure you get copies, but you may have to stay on the teacher....

I think team meets and practices are the toughest. In my DD school, they change constantly (weather, field availabity, etc. ). The coaches dont get paid that much (some are teachers, some teachers in other school) and I can understand they dont want to use their free time to make calls. My DDs gymnastic coach uses Facebook (which I hate btw) to notify people.

My DDs school has a good electronic site, but it doesnt cover anything. For pictures, I just order for all.
