I LOVE crash glass! --coffee table wip

Here's the update on my coffee table top. Everything on here currently is glued. I am filling in with crash glass from a sliding glass door my sister gave me. This is the first time I have used this stuff, and I am LOVING it! It goes down faster than I expected. But I may do it unconventionally. I don't butter each piece, but spread 1-2 square inches of silicone with a toothpick, then place the glass ONTO it, as quickly as I can puzzle them together. I haven't decided what to do along the edge yet. Here's the pics today: (Oh, ignore the dates. Somehow my camera reset itself. This really was just done today!)

And REALLY close up, just cause I like it! :)

C&C welcome! What are you thinking for a grout color?

Oh, how COOL!!! LOVE the effect you're getting!! Grout color?? How about light grey? Don't know the color scheme of the room it's going in, but grey is the first thing that came to mind......

Ronnie, that is looking great! Another project with great precision. The sun really makes it sparkle.

I love love love Susan's work with crash glass. I have been admiring it for a while now and can't wait to try some. My stepdad is a glazier(sp) and said he would bring me some pieces but I have yet to see any. I keep thinking that I will come home from work and there will be some on my doorstep. Oh well I can dream for now. Take care ladies.

You know, I always like to come here and show you what I'm making because you are always so encouraging and I truly appreciate it. Gives me that UMPH and great feedback. So a big THANKS to everyone! Emtnest, It's not something I would put on the stove after I'm finished. Too much labour, thought, and heart goes into making any project so I wouldn't even try it. :O) Curbdiver/Pat, I must agree with Slow - GE II all the way. I've not used anything else as an adhesive. This kettle was clean but scratched so the surface was already great to go for the glueing, but sometimes I sandpaper with stuff made especially for metals. By sandpapering and then cleaning, the surface becomes perfect for the GE. I do this with bowling balls too. Just one sheet of sandpaper for metals can be found at any hardware store and it's cheap. It's -17C here today... Still want to come steal my pot?? LOL!!

I keep coming back to look at this piece, and am still in awe of how beautiful those glass shards are. Gotta try that Pebeo paint, especially the orange and pink. I'm thinking to make some faux Van Gogh w/those colors, since those colors are impossible to find in china and stained glass. Oh, BTW, CALAM. The artist in the workshop I'm taking in PV is bringing a small kiln so we can make some tiles for our project. Better re-think taking that workshop. My sister is going w/me.

Just beautiful....do you butter the pieces and then place....or smear the adhesive on and then place...what adhesive are you using....wow...think I can think of another question? This is just stunning...never used crash glass.........!

Hey everybody, thanks! This is the first time I've used the crash glass, GYPSY. It is so fun! I couldn't imagine buttering each piece, way too time consuming for me and my ADD! ;) I'm using GEII. I kinda squirt a little around in an area, then push it around evenly with a toothpick (ACTUALLY, I'm using a big paperclip with one end straightened now, holds up well and has a "handle".) Then I put the glass into the thin layer of GEII. I've got quite a bit more done tonight already, and not quitting just yet (DH not home!)

And to think I didn't like this tabletop when I first started it!

Your table top is looking great. I love the design you've done.As far as grout color goes.. what color is the base? I would go with something similar.

Well, LADY, this doesn't surprise me in the least, that it's gonna be another masterpiece. In the beginning I was a little nervous FOR you cuz I could feel your searching and searching and trying to get a direction on this one. I said to self - in the end, she'll get it and it'll be a knockout. You lived up to my prediction to self. This is truly beautiful, and I LOVE the addition of the crash glass. HAZIE, if you got the glass in large sheets, IMO, that would take the fun out of piecing it back together puzzle-like.

Your placing technique is the same thing I do for the crash glass! Goes so much faster that way, and I've found it to be much more uniform, also.

This is looking great, and I'm glad you went this route. ~: )

OH That is sooooo pretty. I love the addition of the blue glass globs to the outer edge.

Note to self. LOOK for some crash glass.

Beautiful Ronnie,I think charcoal.I've had a piece of glass 4 ft x4 ft in my garage for a year but afraid to break it...anyone wanta bring a hammer and come? You're doing a great job on your table.

The table is awesome!!! Im glad you like it now!!!! It really is very pretty. I love crash glass too!!! I don't use it much and get bored with it easily but it still is fun to do. I am always amazed at how fast it really does go. I also do not glue each piece...too tedious!!!

It will look great done...I vote for black also!!
