Need solution for mounting my window boxes!
Comments (2)Nice drawing. =) How big is the outside panel? If it is small enough (may even work with a large panel), you could try this: I just hung planter boxes on our rod iron railing and had to improvise because no planter boxes fit them correctly (they are only about an inch wide, at best). (We can hang them from the outside, but you could still use this on the inside.) We measured out an amount of chain at Home Depot and then drilled holes into our boxes (we drilled a guide hole first- otherwise, our boxes being plastic, they would have split from the force of the drill). The holes were on each end of the planter boxes (L and R sides) and on the back (the part that would be up against the railing). We then took a section of chain and looped it through and around the railing, securing it by opening one of the links in the chain on one end and then tightening it around the link in the opposite end (forming a loop). We repeated on the other side. We used a a U-hook at the bottom and center of the planter to stabilize it (you can tighten these down as much as you want) which we also drilled into the boxes. Because there is a slight tilt, you can put a shim (piece of wood) behind the box before tightening down the U-hook. Then tighten the U-hook around it. This might sound involved, but it really wasn't... we have six planter boxes and it took about 1/2 hour to do them all and cost about $6 without the wood (the tilt on our boxes is very slight, so we decided to go without, but the cost for shims should be minimal). I posted all this in a blog; see the link below for pictures of the planter boxes. Here is a link that might be useful: Planter Boxes...See MoreLet's Hear Your Best Organizing Solutions!
Comments (63)This one is from my own sweet mom, who is mother to 9 of us. To save on bathroom storage space ~ which, let me tell you, was at a premium with 9 kids! ~ she gave us each a simple, inexpensive, plastic tool-type caddy to keep our own personal bathroom necessities (toothbrush, comb, brush, etc. ) in. They were stored on a shelf in our bedroom closets, to be carried in and then back again, as we needed them. This helped a lot to keep our bathrooms uncluttered and organized. Mom also bought one of this type of plastic baskets for each kid to catch of our dirty laundry. She wrote our names on each of them. The plastic made it easy to keep clean and the holes kept our dirty clothes somewhat aerated . . . which really helped with our brothers' stinky things (LOL). The handles made them easy to carry back and forth to our laundry room. Lynn...See MoreLooking for landscape solution for window that faces neighbor's window
Comments (27)My choice would be to add a shelf below the window and place containers of plants on it. Position it so the tops of the containers are right at the bottom of the window frame; it will probably be at around the same height as the top of the fence. Similar in idea to a window box but for myself I prefer a shelf and individual containers, as it makes it easier to replant, clean up, etc. and it is more versatile. In autumn the shelf can hold a display of pumpkins and gourds. In winter I use lanterns with LED candles and evergreen boughs, red balls, velvet ribbon. I think your neighbor would love to look out and see a pretty seasonal display! During the spring and summer you can choose drought-friendly annuals to fill the boxes with bright colour. I like begonias. I live in BC Canada where it is very wet in winter but the summers are hot and dry and I am terrible about neglecting my hanging baskets. Begonias are tolerant to over drying; mine are still thriving on the north-west side of my garden shed despite going up to a week between waterings this summer. They don't mind shade either....See Morecrack in window trim - temporary solution until I can get it fixed?
Comments (6)Going to try scrape and caulk this weekend, but adding some new pics of the floor with what I think is more recent damage. Willing to believe it’s not tied to window, and I’ve gotten pest control and home repair lined up for both problems anyway...See Moreguy_exterior_man
