I Think I'll Call Her Tiger Lilly.......WIP

Because of all the tiger's eye I've used on her, I think "Tiger Lilly" is kinda fitting. Everything on her so far is some type of stone. I'm making her for my living room, so I'm going with those browns/tans/and reds.

Boy is she going to be a pain to grout!

Tiger Lilly is right!! Gr-r-r-reat look! She'll definitely be a conversation starter in the living room or any other room. Have you htought about grout color yet? Looks like you'll have TONS of good options for it!

Well first I saw Slows Lally and was amazed,and now I've gotten to you Tiger Lilly and am amazed again.boy today is a big day on here!She is fantastic and from what I've seen of your house on here she will be perfect for your Living room .I love the design and your colors are perfect Hazie.grouting rocks was hard for me because it get's in all the little crevice's you don't even see.I used a tooth brush and tooth picks to clean mine up .But you'll have her looking perfect!Can't wait to see more!

Amanda; Every 4 to 6 weeks, no particular schedule involved here, I either siphon the water out or for the plants in the basket type pots, Like what you see above with the picture of the Anthurium plowmanii, I can lift the pot out and dump it. To siphon the water out I use a piece of silicone air line sold for aquarium use, with a hard plastic tube on one end, silicone is more flexible than clear vinyl tubing so I prefer it. Many pet shops sell this stuff for fixing, modifying or building tank filters. The size of the hard tubing is 3/16" to fit in the air line. I just push the hard tube through the media to the bottom of the container and start the siphon. Most of these small containers have less then a cup of water in them so they only take a few moments to empty, though a few of the larger setups I have may have more then a pint and they do take longer. A few of these containers have a larger(1/2") glass tube that extends to the bottom and I'll just slide the siphon tube down that. I use General Hydroponics Flora Nova Grow to fertilize when I refill the container and just top off the water every 4 - 7 days. Distilled if I have it, Tap water when I don't but I don't concern myself too much over which I use. Overall, I find this a very easy way to keep most of the plants I've tried with it Danny.

I'm Italian and grew up in an all Italian neighborhood. We called our great grandmother and grandmother, Nana and grandfathers Nano. Our nieghbors and friends did the same in their families. My kids call my parents Nana and Nano. Hallmark and other greeting card companies use Nana. I don't think there is an absolute here, each family is different, so you can't go wrong with either one.

Oh wow. I've got nothing on how to word it, but calling their mom out during a bible study in her home is totally unacceptable. The calling mom out was bound to happen, but so openly was the inappropriate place to have done it. The kids are at an age where they realize their mother has many faults and I assume watching Mom sit there during bible study all christian like and holier-than-thou while they know the other side of this woman, was kinda like a last straw for these kids. Mom should have dismissed her study group and then kept the kids at home to deal with her children...not had the out of shipping them off to Dad's. She's created this and she has to face it and deal with it. Dad should have refused to pick the kids up...the kids started this by calling Mom out and the kids should have had to stay and finish what they started. Seriously, if the boys think they are old and brave enough to call Mom out, running to now hid at Dad's should not have been allowed. Yeah, I get Mom is the one who sent them away. But unless they were all physically beating on each other, I think Dad should have said 'sorry, but you all need to work this out'. And I get that Mom is angry at them. They called her out in front of her group and losing their phones to have time to reflect upon what they did won't hurt them a bit. No matter what they think of their mother, calling her out where and when they did was just all wrong. She did not deserve that...even if what the boys said they view as true. It was an manipulative action to cause embarrassment down around their mother's shoulders...almost like publically stoning her. yet they are not really going to see what they did wrong as this is exactly what Mom taught them to do...speak opinions loud and clear. Now would be the time for these boys and their mother to attend extensive counseling sessions together. They love this woman, she loves them, they just all are in a dysfunctional relationship together...she's taught them to be what they have become and now shes being confronted with what she created. A neutral place where they all can air their feelings and opinions. Maybe they should not stay with Dad while this takes places (it would be hard though to be open/honest in session only to then all have to jump in the car and go home together...too much truths and opening of wounds) but I'd seek the professional's advice on the living arrangement because maybe she/he would feel it was for the better.

Hey Struggling -- A lot of what you've written could have been written by my DH, since it's an issue we struggle with a bit too. In our case, my son is 15, and is by nature a moody, semi-sullen sort of kid. He was simply born that way. Our son together is like my husband, and was simply born happy and eager to please. Two totally different personalities that require two different parenting approaches. When older son gets mouthy with me, I simply say (for mild cases) "That didn't come out right -- please try it again." (then WAIT until he does it) or for more extreme cases "No sir! Please try saying that again with an appropriate tone." -- and he complies. He knows that his opinions are welcomed (or at least tolerated), but that his tone of voice must be civil. (He refused to restate politely once, and it cost him his computer monitor for two days. Didn't happen again.) DH, on the other hand, launches into a lecture. You may know that one?... You certainly know the response it gets, because you described it perfectly. My son Can't Stand the lectures and does do the full eye-roll thing. He's not ignoring it -- he's beyond that and is *actively* tuning it out. But DH, wonderful as he is, simply doesn't get it. So he lectures longer, louder, and with increasing hostility. That tactic doesn't work on that child. I'm guessing it doesn't work on your SD either. So try a different tactic. And for what it's worth, I think your wife has a point about treating the SKids with respect so you can demand the same in return. In fact, it might be worth phrasing it exactly that same way -- "I'll treat you with respect if you'll do the same for me." -- then do it.

well, I just commented on your speed (in another thread), and that you were doing another project with the shadow box, and now you have this going, too.....2 projects at once?? Wow.

This is so cool....and you are so versatile!! In just the last couple of months - you did the shabby chic tea set, and your gorgeous living room mirror, and that amazing mirror for your daughter, and a shoe, and the shadow box, and now a mannequin! I mean, really, that is just an amazing variety of projects. And who knows...I probably forgot something, too! And this one is a really, really different style for you, isn't it. I think you've proved you can do just about anything! I'm very impressed!

and I was pretty afraid to start it, but it was fun to just go with the flow for a change. So if nothing else, it was good practice learning to just let go a little.

d3bbi... You are too funny! and yes, I guess you could say she is! so far she is totally stoned! later she will be a little glassy(eyed)well... maybe if she had some.

annie....thanks for info on cleaning those rocks up. The more I put on, the more I'm dreading grouting her.I'm afraid I'll ruin her with it.

Nice....your impregnating sealant idea is something I need to check out.....know of one?

Hazie, I have used rocks since that time so I haven't investigated further... figured the products they use on marble and granite to avoid grout staining would be best. I know there's one on the shelf at Lowes. But listen, don't risk ruining Tiger Lily, do some experimenting first to see what keeps the grout out best.

I thought in the beginning she was looking like Akins bride,
but they are from totally different worlds now. I thought warrior with her in the beginning........but hubby said she looked like our heritage. He's 1/2 Apache......
and I'm 1/4 Chippewa........and she looks like more like an
indian warrior..........So I bought her an arrow head today,
and MORE rocks! she is the most spendy project I've ever had! I just hope I LOVE her when she's done!hahaha

OH, HAZIE: She is WONDERFUL. That red portion w/the squares is just splendid. HURRY - I am soooooo anxious to see this one finished. Boy, you HAVE "stepped out" as NT says.

Hazie, Please let me send you a couple more arrow heads. They are sitting in a box on hubby's dresser never looked at or enjoyed. They would be so splendid on her. I can get a picture for you if you want. Trying to remember where they came from. Not from Idaho. They were given to me.

Be back in a few with a picture. Then I MUST get going here. Hubby let me sleep in way too late.

Hazie. The point on the right (black one) is not real. I know the person that chipped it. The other three are real and I am thinking they came from North or South Dakota. A friend gave them to me. The points are small but it good shape. The flesher/scraper is about 2 inches long.

When we lived in Challis there was a camp on our propery. I combed the areas for chips/flakes. Lots of the jasper you are using if I can find them now I can send you some but they are not polished like the pieces you are using. But they are authentic if you are turning her into an indian warrior.

Now I must get a move on. Will check back in later.

The fill takes forever. Like usual, I'm grinding every piece, and my fingers are raw again.

I have a bead station on the dining room table, a little work station in the living room, and I can hardly move in
my studio, with all the glass parts all over. The whole family will be glad when I finish this one!

OMG...I love the placement of the arrowhead.......she is awesome..............I used some arrowheads on you know who, but they were not nearly as nice as this.......Tiger Lilly is really something! Shades..you're so sweet! I just love the colors you've chosen!!!!

The glass I got for her was from Cooltiles.com. It came on that mesh. The colors so far are Kona (darkest) Ceylon
and lemon. I love the stuff they have there. They sell it by the sqaure foot for backsplashes and showers/etc.

I didn't get anything done this weekend. DD had a slumber party, and the house was full of 14 year olds most of the weekend. So I'm off to make up for lost time!

OH Hazie,

She is turning out so nice!!! I understand the frustration of all the time it takes. I thought I would never get my mannequin covered up. LOL Then suddenly she was all covered and I hesitated to grout for a couple of months. I was so afraid to grout. And then the grouting was not that bad. Just took me a whole day.

GREAT Job . Hope you enjoy working in her today.
