Thanks for the tips! We could definitely go the salvage approach, but figured since we're replacing the windows anyway, might as well go to double-paned glass in them. (There are three rotting windows, all on the same side of the house, because they get a lot of exposure to the elements there---hoping the new windows will help on that front with tighter fits, too.) I like the rain pattern, though, and also a hammered glass I'd seen---just can't tell if they really look appropriate or will stick out like a sore thumb. (We'll probably keep a curtain there anyway, but want the option of getting rid of that at some point, since the bathroom gets awesome natural light if only it weren't for the neighbors' window!) I'm actually curious as to what the original glass was---clearly what's there now was replaced at some point, and the house that looks in predates our house by a decade, so they clearly knew about the issue when they designed it. Hmm....

That inset is really beautiful! Of course we have to have screens here in DC (not only required by code, but practically unless you want your house full of bugs if you open a window at all), but the flexibility of doing an inset, a film, a curtain, a blind, or nothing is what makes me lean toward just doing clear. The cost is so low as to be irrelevant, in perspective (less than half a percent of the project cost), but it just kind of squicks me out to be making a decision that will probably be in place for so long. In the condo I last lived in before buying this house (which I sell this Friday!), I had a window IN the shower and it just had privacy film on the lower portion (it was a double-hung...bane of my existence since the top would slip down and I'd have to put step stool IN the bathtub to put the top back in place!). It worked fine for over 5 years, through all the humidity and direct sunlight (unobstructed southern exposure, so it got direct sunlight ~7 months/year), and I didn't mind it.

Perhaps if you posted a picture of the front of your house, and the two doors that are under consideration, you would get some decent responses. Absent that, here's my choice:
