I have spent the last day or so digesting the information that has been given me. Slowly coming to terms with the realistion that I am indeed living with someone who is a narcissist. Coupled with the years of verbal abuse, I now understand why some days I have trouble getting out of bed and why more than on one occassion I have found myself reaching for the liquor cabinet in the middle of the day. I have always been popular and had many friends but now have none because DH dissaproves of nearly everyone I like. He insulted my best friend at our wedding (along with nearly everyone else, including his own children) and basically ended that relationship. I'm disconnected from my community. When we moved to this little city/town I remember jockingly qipping, "Ah so now I'm to be a Stepford Wife". Little did I realise. I had hoped to spend the time building a body of work (I'm an artist by training) but seem to spend all my time in the office shuffling paper. My husband by the way thinks artists are people of lower intelligence much the same way he thinks Europeans are backward. Guess who's wife's parents were Europeans? Eastern block to boot. I have found the name of a doctor and am taking steps to move forward. I don't want to leave my husband but see the situation for what it is. Sometimes when people change it can effect change in others. That's what I'm hoping for but I'm not holding my breath.
