Where the home is will have as much to do with what glass is right for the South than anything.

How many windows in the different elevations?

If you tell me there are 20 windows in the home, the $9K seems a bit steep. If we are talking about 40 windows, much less so.

Our home is in mid-west with the lot facing south if that is what you mean .
Yes, there are about 35 or more windows in the home, So you think the price is about right.

Will an elevation sketch help ? I can add that if needed.

Wouldn't hurt but if you are a mixed climate, you would ideally want to allow for as much passive sun in the winter months and control the hot sun via shading.

That isn't an unreasonable upcharge for the 400 by any means.

Please find attached the front elevation and this home will be built in Indiana to be specific.

Not a huge fan of wood windows due to their less than desirable performance numbers but i would DEFINITELY upgrade to the woodwrite 400 series. The andersen 200 tilt wash is a poorly designed window and looks kind of cheap as well. Thats why its cheaper.

She is going to be a pretty home when all done.

If you like the 400, spend the additional money and get a window that you will be happy with.

Like mmarse1 said, it is a nicer built and looking product than the 200 series.

Only other thing I would recommend is maybe looking at a competitive wood or composite product.

Something with a narrow and modern profile might really look good here on this home.

I think a fiberglass window, in a casement would look good. Marvin Integrity of Infiniity. Some of the others guys will be along to recommend a higher end vinyl casement and the proper series (I am not very in tune with vinyl casements).

Our builder came back with a quote for Upgrade to Marvin Integrity windows within $300 of Anderson 400 but with white exterior.
It gives us hope. Below are the details:

White exterior/pre-finished white interior, no grilles, white traditional hand lift with screws, no stool & (1) one sash lock

Fiberglass is a good option, just stay away from the cheap looking, poorly designed pella impervia. Most pro's stay far away from that window.

We have also decided to use the Marvin Integrity series and have also mentioned to the builder regarding the 10% discount he gets for being a first time user.

Win - Win then.
