Anderson 200 vs. 400?

Does anyone have an opinion on the difference between Anderson 200 and 400 lines?

My builder is leaning toward the 200 line and I've seen the 400 line and they don't appear to be that much different. I have a lot of windows in my new 2-story great room and I want to make sure I'm not being penny-wise and pound foolish.

Best go to Anderson's site and read the differences between the two series. They may look the same but are different.

I can't tell you the difference offhand. However, when we built our house we went with the 200 series tilt-wash double hungs and used the 400 series for casement and awning windows. I actually liked the look of the 200 series double hungs better than the 400 series and they were a fair bit cheaper. Quality wise, the 400 does seem like a slightly better product and there are more options in terms of harware and outside finishes. I don't regret our decision though to use windows from both lines.

Marvin full line has a four panel door with matching color as Integrity. That is what I see most commonly done.

You may be 100% correct, lzerac. I have not sold Eagle products in a few years and they very well may have improved the quality but I just do not feel Andersen products are a top of the line product, either performance or durability wise. The 400 and Tilt Wash Double Hungs which make up the bulk of their sales are a vinyl wrapped frame which is not very think nor attractive from my perspective. The sash are not architecturally correct in that the sash are essentially the same top and bottom and do not give you the aesthetics that a wood window should have. The exterior of the sash are still a painted product and the glass is only 5/8" of an inch thick where as most companies have gotten better performance values from thicker glass. This is just for starters I do not sell wood windows currently and need to think back to some of the other reasons I am not a fan. I used to sell a hell of a lot of Andersen Windows but then I started selling Marvin and Kolbe and just found the workmanship and the quality if the products to be of a higher quality. I personally feel that when Andersen started making custom products and purchasing other companies that this was the downfall of them as they started trying to be everything to everybody instead of being themselves. Just my feelings and opinion forr what that is worth.

Thanks for your thoughts, @millworkman. I understand the Essentials is fiberglass interior and fiberglass exterior. I have not really looked at that because we would like a stained wood, traditional looking interior which is what we have currently. Our house is a colonial style cape. I did see the Elevate which has the wood interior with the fiberglass exterior. I did not like the wood lip at the top of the bottom sash of the Elevate...felt it was a bit contemporary looking. I don't know of any others in our area (NH) to consider at this point (have looked at Harvey Majesty, Pella LIfestyle, Andersen Woodwright, Andersen 400 series Tilt Wash and the Marvin Elevate). I can't compare Andersen with Pella or any others, or the 200 series v. the 400 series, but I bought Anderson double hung windows and a sliding door, and I am sorely disappointed in them. I paid a LOT, esp. or the door. I had no choice but to get the top of the line because I had to get the bronze exterior color. The screens on the windows are flimsy. The hangers for the screen sliding door are plastic and break all the time. I've had problems with a new lock I installed on the sliding doors in December since December…. I would not buy Andersen again. But for all I know, the others are the same. I and so anti-corporate America right now. The greed is out of control; the mentality of cutting on quality in order to increase profits is anathema to me, but that's what they're doing, everywhere.

I've been reading these...interesting.

We are building a house in Ohio and the builder wants to install the Silver Line series. It is a new window company that Anderson just purchased, and the reviews on the performance on this product line was poor. We want to upgrade to the 200 series, but after reading many of your reviews, I'm not sure that 200 is good enough.

We really don't need a range of color or specific sizes, as we have to go with white and the builder has already spec'd out the sizes in the DH, so I'm wondering if the 200 (w/ low E) is okay.

Has anyone had any experience with Silver Line windows?!?!

Silverline is pretty much the bottom of the barrel in vinyl replacement windows, as is the offerings from Pella. If you want a good quality vinyl window, look at the offerings from Sunrise, Gorell, Softlite, Okna and Simonton.

If you want a quality wood window, look at Marvin.

If you like to gamble, buy Pella wood windows, or go to Vegas.

Take a look at Lincoln Windows as well. I saw them in a showroom and was actually impresed with their construction. Seems more solid than the Andersen 400.
