My Very Bad!

Well, it turns out one my sarcastic remarks that I've made that my 17 yo SS hated was "my next husband" comments. When I read this, I almost had to laugh out loud.

One thing I have always believed is that you don't use the "D" word unless you mean it. And I've lived by this rule. Unfortunately, what has slipped past me was that in moments of frustration/desparation, I have been heard to say things such as "Well, my next husband won't (fill in the blanks here, and feel free to use your imagination)." It made my husband angry (or at least as I angry as I was feeling in the moment), but I unfortunately used in when various kids were around, and it used to really bother this SS.

I laughed because it's been such a VERY long time since I've said this, I'd forgotten I'd ever said it. I asked DH if he remembered when the last time was, and he said, "Probably about the time son moved out." I realize now that the reason my SS would get so upset is because it is hurtful, and even though I have no intention of leaving DH, it is still a very insulting thing to say. SS became really angry because he loves his father and was being protective.

DH and I talked about this. We both can appreciate how much stronger our marriage has become in the last 6 months. He said, "It's been the worst year for our family, but the best year for our marriage." I thought that was really nice, coming on the heels of being reminded what a jerk I'd been.
