chrism, Regarding the spacers between the grille: Not 100% positive, but I think the black foam spacer between the grills on Pella windows is patented. Therefore nobody else in the industry can use it. And therefore, it Would be true that 'normally' they are made with aluminum. Pella uses the black foam spacer because it's a better insulator, it doesn't transfer heat like aluminum does. It also isn't as noticeable as aluminum. Light wont bounce off the foam like on aluminum. It gives a more authentic true divided lite look. As for the foam deteriorating over time?????? No clue. Doubt that'll happen. Maybe the aluminum will rust over time also. Pella is nice. So is Marvin. Would buy both before Andersen. personal opinion.

Integrity here is more $$ than Anderson 100 but every one should get multiple bids on their own. Regional pricing and differences from one dealer to another can be substantial. If I would have taken the first bid on a recent project I could have easily paid 10k more for the same Marvin windows from a different dealer. AFAIK what Fibrex offers is more rigidity and less warping than straight vinyl or at least that's the sales line. Integrity is Fiberglass and was designed to directly compete with Renewal by Anderson. Marvin's glass warranty is a bit vague. There's no way any of us can know what the warranty is from their glass supplier although you can contact them to get the "further" details. Anderson's warranty is pretty darn clear at a flat 20 years. Any warranty that's explicit and concise is better from my perspective. They also detail their time frame for warranty work. Something Marvin does not do and I can tell you from personal experience it's slower than what Anderson warrants. Marvin; "GLASS COMPONENTS Glass warranties apply to factory-installed glass or Marvin-supplied glass installed by Marvin-authorized service personnel. Clear insulating glass with stainless steel spacers is warranted against seal failure caused by manufacturing defects and resulting in visible obstruction through the glass for twenty (20) years. Non-tempered glass is warranted against stress cracks caused by manufacturing defects for ten (10) years. @msgal39564 - what did you decide on the glass and how did it work out? Natural sunlight is very important to use with a housebound family member (who does notice the glass difference in newer homes), so we are really weighing our options in a similar climate.

Are you saying that they are only charging you 33% of the cost of new windows?... Or that they are sending you all new windows for free, but only providing the reimbursement for labor up at a rate of about 33% of what it will cost you to do so? If the former, I'm not sure that I'd take that deal given that these are clearly product failures and should be fully warrantied. If the latter, that is certainly better news for you, and in fact, despite the inconvenience, I'd say kudos to Andersen for offering anything toward install. While a case could certainly be made that their defective windows made that cost necessary, very few manufacturers offer any coverage at all on the labor side of things. Many installation companies will offer that. In this case, it sounds like a builder? You could try that company as far as covering the labor and/or subsidizing. May or may not have luck, but worth a shot.
