bahamas windows and doors

Building a beach house in the Bahamas and sorting out our window/door options. So far have quotes on vinyl and fiberglass. As far as impact glass goes have gotten different feedback. One of the concerns is that if the glass is shattered( still intact but you would want to replace it) this is an expensive undertaking since the glass/window would have to be shipped in from the states.

We can have wooden shutters made on site fairly reasonably. This type of shutter is widely used on the island. We are on an out island - not Nassau.

For the french doors - the one quote for fiberglass is actually less than vinyl - seems contrary to my research. Thoughts?

Also have a price/quote on Jeld wen - both impact and low e(3). The fiberglass doors are just clear insulated tempered glass - they are a generic brand - with kerfed ( what ever that means) weatherstripping, t astragal, flush edge bolts with stainless steel butt hinges. Locks/handles not included. The Jeld wen low e door is double the price of the fiberglass one. These doors all will lead onto a covered screen porch.

The $ factor is a deciding factor.

Appreciate all feed back - we need to order the windows very soon.
