I am STILL grinning from ear to ear over this! I called my mother each time I got an update from kswl, and I took Friday off to go to southern Maine with Mum to (you guessed it) picked up some CL chairs! She was here in my office with me when we saw the emails with pics coming in, and it was quite a thrill. We had a wonderful lunch outside on the patio at Stonewall Kitchen's Cafe in York, ME. Who knew that over a month ago, one of the chairs I saw and wanted was owned by an artist, who is also a cat rescuer! I was looking for his phone number online and found this article, which made the front page of the local area newspaper when it happened. Brad still has that cat named 'Banks' and 5 others. He is looking for homes for 3 of them, but potential adopters will be carefully vetted. Brad sent me home with a chair that I hadn't planned on buying as well as the one he'd been holding for me. Both were from his grandparent's home. He asked for pictures when they are done, as did the nice man in Gray, ME where I bought the two that I am doing for Chibimimi. Lazygardens, I don't sell on Etsy, or anywhere else, other than the Mustard House in Buxton, and anyone who happens to see and want something they've seen. Pam, the owner of the Mustard House, wants me to do this antique French sofa she bought. I've looked everywhere and have not seen one like it, with those built-in arms on each end. Researching shipping these to GA was interesting, and the rates from FedEx and UPS shocked me. Incredibly high in my opinion. Being an eBay fan, I have seen many auctions that offer Greyhound shipping at a reasonable fee, so I researched that, and it was 1/6 of the highest price, which was from UPS. The buyer does have to pick them up at a Greyhound station, but the savings were HUGE! The size of these at 44" high made them too big to go USPS, as the 'horse stool' to MA did. Hi tina, Mine are 9 3/4" tall, and I got a fabulous price on them compared to most I see out there. You're right - they are pricey. I have a local lighting store that has an incredible array of parts. I go crazy in their back room choosing parts I want for each project! I bought two 12" ivory candlestick covers. Just a longer version of what you'd put on chandelier lamps. They're just plastic. I also bought 2 rubber 'things' with a hole in the center. I guess they are normally used when one wants to make a lamp out of a bottle or jug. They go in the neck of the bottle, but in this case, I shaved them down with a sharp knife and put them in the candlestick, where the candle would normally go. They are about 1" tall. I also bought 2 chandelier bulb sockets. I didn't want to damage the candlesticks by drilling them, so I elected to use an 'inline switch' that you'll see in the photo below. I put the rubber thing in the candlestick and slid the candle cover over it. I noted where the rubber thing came up inside the candle cover. Then, I took the candle cover off, and punched a small hole in it with a paper punch, just above where the rubber thing would be. That hole is where I slid the wire up through to the socket. I wired the socket and glued it into the top of the candle cover. You may need to use tape to hold it in place while it dries. I then attached the plug to the end of the wire. I put the bulb in to check my wiring, and plugged the lamp in. It worked, so then I took the inline switch and decided where to put it, so it would be hidden by the candlestick when done. The first inline switch was a little funky, but the second one went on in a breeze. Just follow the directions for using one. IF you don't mind plugging the lamp in each time to turn them on, you can omit the inline switch, and just plug and unplug them. My outlet is behind a chair and that would be awkward, so I just put the switches on. Making a lamp yourself means that you can make the cord as long as it needs to be to plug it in wherever. I usually use the clear gold tones lamp wire, as it blends in with my mantle. So now, you have a working lamp with an inline switch to turn it on. Look VERY closely at the photo below, and you will see that I used some brown covered floral wire to wrap around the candlestick, and then twisted it together, to hold the wire and switch tight to the candlestick. You have to be right on top of that thing to see the wire. Then I headed to eBay and found some shades, and that was it! I am making some now out of brass candlesticks, to try with my new/old CL mirror. But for those, I am using the 'fiber' candle covers with realistic looking drips on them. I just took a pic of that one underway so you can see the rubber thing. It starts out ribbed, but I have shaved this one down to fit the candle holder. What it will look like done, with a sample eBay shade on it.

The downside is for those who sell through the consignment shops. Someone I know has been considering that as a business and told me the commission is 50%. When things are already expected to sell dirt cheap, I can't see paying someone else to do it, losing another 50% on the item.

Well, That's an interesting fabric combo on the left one, isn't it? Do you want to do both front and back of the 'back'? and the seats, too? They remind me of the first chair I ever re-did, a Drexel Heritage from CL that cost $90. First pic from the CL ad. Mine did have a loose cushion back and seat, unlike the ones you show in the auction, which just have the tight back and seat. Pulling out all the nail heads on the left one will require a special hand tool and will drive you crazy. Like this HERE. Do you sew? The welting on the right one around the edge of the fabric on the back and seat require machine sewing the fabric you choose around welting cord that you'd need to buy. You'd need at least an electric stapler to staple the new fabric onto the back and seat. Depending on the condition of the padding in both, you might need to replace it. Usually you use a thick soft batting over the foam. You'll need fabric/s and also the black Cambric (dust cover fabric) that gets stapled on the underside of the chair seats. I've sewn since I was a kid, and to me, I called upholstering 'the last frontier'. I watched videos on YouTube, bought books and tools over time. It's not like stapling new fabric over a dining chair where the seat pops out. Do you know if there are any classes in your area that you could attend? The chairs look GREAT, and I'd want to get them, too, but it'll be a good amount of work.
