With the plants you overwinter, do you partition off only the part with the overwintering plants and heat it, or do you heat the entire greenhouse? Unfortunately, i have to heat the entire greenhouse. With the exhaust fan on one end of the GH and the vents on the other end of the GH, i would not be able to regulate the temperature. Is your foilback wall permanent or do you put it up for winter and take it down when the weather warms up? I have tried it both ways, i just leave it up now. I'm not gaining or loosing any light either way and i dont have to worry about storing it somewhere else. What percentage of light does your shadecloth block? Honestly i dont know, it was used when i got it. I did'nt know much about shadecloth at the time. I would guess it is around the 50% mark. I had bought some remnents that were 60% and it was darker then what i had already. Can you shade the greenhouse enough to use it at all in the warmer months, or does it just retain too much heat? During the cooler months, it is alot easier to pull the heat out without the use of shadecloth. Mainly because the outside air is much cooler and does'nt have to exhaust as long. I usually take the shadecloth down during the winter months. during the summer months,even with shadecloth it will still be 100+ degrees inside with the exhaust fan running. It is pulling warm air inside(slightly cooler) then the inside air.there is not much you can do in it in the summer. According to the size and shape of my greenhouse i have the exhaust and vents sized right. In the winter months, I hope to set up a cold frame and grow some cold-season crops that overwinter well. I may not heat the greenhouse at all except once I start raising seedlings in it. I would try and go that route if at all posible. unless you have money to burn, i would'nt run the greenhouse when not needed.Not that i have money to burn.Usually the only time heat is needed is cold clowdy days and nighttime. When you said your greenhouse runs east to west, do you mean your 16' wall faces the east and the west or that the 48' wall faces the east and west? My 16' wall faces the east. that is why i said i leave the foilback insulation up. I dont loose enough sunlight on the north side to worry about. My greenhouse runs east-west, so the shorter 12' wall faces east and west and the 24' wall faces north and south. That is the way mine is set up also. I have limited flat land also, and water and electricty was another determining factor in why it had to be set up like that. I dont remember if i mentioned it or not, but i also ran a frost free water hydrant inside the GH. I dont have to worry about frozen water hoses. I also have an old kitchen sink on a stand inside also. It come in mighty handy when it is freezing outside and you need to rinse something off. One of those mud room/utility sinks would not take up much room, you might think about that. And for all of you thinking I am crazy to be mentioning a second greenhouse when the first one isn't even finished yet....don't blame me! Tim put the thought of a second greenhouse in my head by saying, several times, "the next greenhouse that we build, we'll......blah, blah, blah....". So, even though we aren't through building the first one yet, he's already thinking of what he might do either the same or differently the next time. How can a gardener's heart not rejoice when the non-gardening spouse is already planning a second greenhouse? I know 12x24 will look big while it is empty, once the plants start filling it up, you will want another and another.... I turned one of those portable carports(12'x21') into a Gh in town at my business to use as a holding GH.So i have a pretty good idea of the space you have available. I used some leftover GH film to cover it. If i can remember to take the camera(if i can find it)i will post some photos of how and why i did it the way it is.It really turned out nice. I didn't have a long wait to see what that bud held, I must say. I wonder if it has a name...as far as scent, it has a faint smell (if I stick my nose in there) that could only be described as "weird."

GB, Thank! I should have thought of Bloody Mary but all I could think of was the other thing. But I'm not that much different from others. Consider this case: The story is told of a lady who was rather old-fashioned, always quite delicate and elegant, especially in her language. She and her husband were planning a week's vacation in Florida, so she wrote to a particular campground asking for a reservation. She wanted to make sure the campground was fully equipped, but didn't quite know how to ask about the toilet facilities. She just couldn't bring herself to write the word "toilet" in her letter. After much deliberation, she finally came up with the old-fashioned term BATHROOM COMMODE. But when she wrote that down, she still thought she was being too forward. So she started all over again, rewrote the entire letter referring to the bathroom commode merely as the BC: "Does the campground have it's own BC?" is what she actually wrote. Well, the campground owner wasn't old-fashioned at all and when he got the letter, he just couldn't figure out what the woman was talking about. That BC business really stumped him. After worrying about it for awhile, he showed the letter to several campers, but they couldn't imagine what the lady meant either. So the campground owner, finally coming to the conclusion that the lady must be asking about the local Baptist Church, sat down and wrote the following reply: Dear Madam: I regret very much the delay in answering your letter, but I now take pleasure in informing you that a BC is located nine miles north of the campground and is capable of seating 250 people at one time. I admit it is quite a distance away, if you are in the habit of going regularly, but no doubt you will be pleased to know that a great number of people take their lunches along and make a day of it. They usually arrive early and stay late. It is such a beautiful facility and the acoustics are marvelous...even the normal delivery sounds can be heard. The last time my wife and I went was six years ago, and it was so crowded we had to stand up the whole time we were there. It may interest you to know that right now a supper is planned to raise money to buy more seats. They are going to hold it in the basement of the BC. I would like to say it pains me very much not to be able to go more regularly, but it surely is no lack of desire on my part. As we grow old, it seems to be more of an effort, particularly in cold weather. If you do decide to come down to our campground, perhaps I could go with you the first time you go, sit with you, and introduce you to all the other folks. Remember, this is a friendly community.
