I Can't Afford This!
Comments (14)I've always been a bit wary of many formulations, lime sulfur included, so am not very familiar with this material. There is a discussion on it in the Rose Forum at http://forums2.gardenweb.com/forums/load/roses/msg110832507624.html. Bacillus subtilis is a bacteria commonly found in the environment - soil, air, water, and particularly decaying plant matter; it aids in the decompostion process. Since it also produces antibiotic and antifungal compounds, its efficacy and safety in controlling plant diseases was explored and formulations are now fairly readily available, labeled for use in suppressing or controlling about 30 bacterial and fungal diseases. It is supposed to have very low toxicity to non-target organisms. Neem oi is another very useful product in the garden, with low adverse impact on the environment. That being said, always, always read labels completely and carefully, following label directions regarding mixing, application rates and personal protection. They're probably erring on the side of caution, but why take chances? One thing everyone should be aware of is the availability, via internet, of Material Safety Data Sheets (commonly called MSDS). In the work environment, these must be readily available to any workers using any covered materials ... even substances we consider common household cleaning products and pesticides. There are several sites that will provide this info free of charge. Also check out Cornell's references linked below. Here is a link that might be useful: MSDS & Other Chemical Safety Information...See MoreCan't afford Pental Mesa, looking for more affordable option
Comments (16)Yes, I probably won't cut my own soapstone counters, especially not when spouse is threatening to make me finish the bamboo doors. I like the wild rice and think it could work. Thanks again for pointing that one out to me. It is busier than the mesa, but from the full slab pictures I've been able to find I think not too much so. I ordered a sample and also of raven. Some colors like cemento which I thought I would love (forget manufacturer sorry) look purple in here because of all the yellow I suppose. Re granite, though I love the look and idea of stone counters, granite is often too busy. There is an IKEA sale right now and am planning to take advantage of it. Will have to order this week or next....See MoreHelp going crazy - can't afford to buy in the neighborhood we already.
Comments (40)Thank you for the suggestions. To answer the questions asked - we wouldn't need any additional cars as we already have two. Anywhere we move would still be within public transportation distance of the city as that is important to me. However it would be longer and probably on a commuter train with less frequency rather than a bus as I have now. About the slightly smaller home - any homes that are around even the ones that are smaller than ours are atleast $500k more so I am in the same place where I wonder what the value is in moving (which was my original question) The architect I had mentioned came by today and had some great suggestions that we could use to make the area we already have way more functional for us as a family. I am thinking about doing those changes (which she said would cost about ($30K) which involve breaking down a wall and adding a couple more windows and one additional door. The windows and door would require condo approval but everything else should be relatively easy to do! She did mention that it would be difficult to add another bedroom to the upstairs as there is value in keeping that big room as it is for now without dividing it up!...See MoreProVia Door for New Construction?
Comments (7)ProVia makes a really awesome product. Perfect for both new & old construction. I like their Fusion frame. They are somewhat limited in style for the more contemporary design style, but if you find something you like you won't be disappointed. If going woodgrain use the Embarq or Signet. The Heritage fiberglass & stained steel finishes don't look very realistic. For smooth finish I like all grades depending on budget & style needs. Lead times (like any company) are brutal. Plan early! ThermaTru is ok, but nothing like a Provia. It's worth driving some distance for a Provia if not available nearby. Best of luck...See MoreWindows on Washington Ltd
