Fiberglass vs Fiberglass/Wood patio sliding door
Comments (2)I have a good friend who sells replacement windows and doors and we when we replaced one of our doors last year she told me not to get fiberglass. I ended up with a steel door and I'm happy! I wasn't able to buy a door from her anyway as she lives in a different state. Her comments lead me to believe that the fiberglass just doesn't hold up as well, in the long run. Good Luck! Sue...See MoreSteel vs Fiberglass exterior door, which is better?
Comments (7)Fiberglass isn't warmer or better. If you prefer a woodgrain look, fiberglass has that to offer. Steel can offer woodgrain too, but not usually in the economy lines. Make sure the door is Energy Star compliant for your region. Read the NFRC label. Michael...See MoreShould I replace steel door with a fiberglass door?
Comments (18)I'd be shocked to see an uninsulated steel door in MI. Even the bottom of the barrel doors that can be purchased at box stores will be foam filled. The correct answer to this question cannot be had without more information. Here are a few points: -Fiberglass is going to be a little warmer than steel in my experience. That said, if you are replacing a door of like quality, it will not make a BIG difference. -Notice that I said "like quality". Is this an "el cheapo" box store door? Or something of quality construction? From the materials used, to the manufacturing tolerances and quality of construction, this will make a difference. -Installation: Is the door installed properly? Can you see light in any corners? Are the reveals consistent? Adequate seal at the sweep? Is the unit properly insulated around the frame? Long story short, if this is a quality door that is properly installed, no, I would not replace it. If there are other issues, however, it may be worthwhile....See MorePainted Fiberglass vs Painted Steel Entry Door Maintenance
Comments (3)They both should be about the same at the end of the day. The fiberglass is nice from the standpoint that it does not dent if you bump into it whereas a steel panel door has that potential. You are probably going to get a bit better finish in a factory finished option, but there is no reason that you can't get a good finish on a primed door with a good painter (this is critical here). The residential paints out there are so good now that they hold up really well if properly applied over a prepped substrate. We wash out door occasionally (not in direct sunlight) and treat it with a kind of quick detailer spray to help protect the paint....See Moretru_blue
