It doesn't do anything to accelerate the growth of the tree. It's just a pot with the holes sealed, the water evaporates pretty fast here -- except during the monsoon season -- water has to be added at least every other day. I posted a few pics in the other thread. There isn't any root-rot, when we re-potted the roots were all good and healthy, nice white tips. I've actually fed the tree since I've had it (about 4 years now) and it's been growing a lot better. It's fairly common for this to be done in tropical climates, most ficus will adapt with no problems at all. My biggest fight is with alge growth, I have been growing the water lettuce in this and another pot to cut down on that. You could do it in your area but in the winter (indoors) you would have to change the water so it didn't become stagnant and brackish, maybe use a small aquarium pump. Bob

I, too, have been seeking the answer to this, and here's what I found, quoted from the Dayton Nursery website ( http://www.daytonnursery.com/encyclopedia/perennials/hemerocallis.htm ). "Hemerocallis 'Happy Returns' Daylily zones 3-9 Description: 3 inch ruffled, canary yellow blossoms. Repeat bloomer. Everblooming. 3 1/4" light lemon yellow, very fragrant flowers, lightly ruffled. Bloom Color: Yellow Bloom Time: Summer Foliage Color: Green Height: 18" Spread: 18-24" As to which blooms first, I know not. But I'd say your paler one is 'Fragrant' and your darker one is 'Happy.' I have never seen a list of day-length preferences of plants, but if I were looking for one I'd try the Brooklyn Botanic Garden or maybe good old Arnold Arboretum's library. The day length characteristic is really interesting, though; even if we don't have as much heat and strong sun as other regions, we DO have the same day length as elsewhere at this latitude. Do you think that in plants that are sensitive to day length, the strength of the sun might be a completely different characteristic, or are you saying that you think they're linked? I think some plants just need more sun and heat than we normally get - like my favorite Salvia, S. leucantha, the Mexican bush sage. One more thing - although I don't have much luck with hardy Delphinium (I won't dignify them by calling them perennials) the annual larkspur (which IS a Delphinium) does just fine here. So, I don't think Delphinium's known failure to grow in these parts necessarily has anything to do with day length. It may be the case with some other plants, of course.

LOL Yeah! I swear the larger sizes were ALWAYS cheaper, and when we caught on to that, the companies switched it on us! DH says.. wait.. buy the bigger one, nope, look at the unit price kiddo! I too, have gotten down on my knees to check prices! ah, lunchlady, I was always stuck behind the peeps who waited till then end to scan their debit cards, fumble with the pen thingy, hitting wrong numbers for their pin and taking too long! All the while my check was already written out! lol I finally started using a debit card last year, but now may revert to old school and do checks again. I was spending too much money, cause every time the machine asked if I wanted cash back, I'd tap, SURe! give me twenty.. and then 20 bucks was gone in no time! lol

Jesus and his religion sure is popping up alot these days in the Garden. LOL.

I have to somewhat agree since I am forever getting crucified for having malice towards BM. Sometims I really do feel like I am the only one who should be christ like while all the other hethens party hardy:( Sucks
