I think it depends on the difference in the manufacturer's warranty if they install them or someone else does. Do they really offer a better warranty if they install them?

How confident are you about the quality of the work of your framer - do they know how to install windows? I'd probably have them do it unless I was concerned about their skill level.

It's not hard to install windows per the manufactures instructions. I do it all the time. I also am called on to trouble shoot window problems by a half dozen window companies. The majority of problems are windows installed not per instructions because someone who has put in "thousands" thinks they know better.... but in reality out of the thousands... they have yet to put one in correctly. Best you can do is educate yourself and inspect the job closely upon completion.

FYI.... one I work with has estimated 80% of their product is installed incorrectly.

Thanks for the responses, but it seems that if I want to be indemnified, I have to use the dealer's installers. I'm not about to get a framer to agree to indemnify.

Here is an often ignored, yet very important part of the window/door installation process:

Carefully inspect the product for defects/correct size/correct style BEFORE allowing the product to be installed. If there are any questions as to quality, DO NOT allow the product to be installed. The previous posters are all correct, one can 'almost' always find a legitimate problem with installation. If there is an obvious issue from the beginning, there is no reason for the manufacturer to even consider paying to reinstall something that should not have been installed to begin with.

What kind of "indemnification" is in the agreement from the dealer? Can you post the exact wording here? Just curious - it just sounds to me like you are being fed a line by the dealer.
