I think a beautifully framed mirror would look perfect over your lovely entry table. It's always nice to have a mirror to take a quick look before one answers the door or going out. Going by your frame and the style of your table I'd go with a somewhat carved silver leafed frame on the mirror.

Sorry, but I think the hurricanes are too small for the space. You want something to visually make an impact in the area. I would think about a taller lamp for the right side, and a grouping of framed pieces (either photos or art) to fill the space. A plant or decorative box on the bottom shelf would be nice.

I can move the hurricanes to the fireplace or something, they won't go wasted. I was thinking about a tall lamp.

I have this mirror(cropped pic from old house), but I'm not sure if it would look okay here, or if I need a horizontal rectangle?

ITA with les- the table is great- the accessories... not so much.
A mirror would be expected and appropriate over the console.
A Tiffany-inspired lamp would also provide nice ambient illumination.

A vote for a taller dark buffet lamp (or even two lamps?)-- and the dark framed mirror -- hung vertically. Another shape for the mirror might work well here too -- think of a round mirror in that same place! The style and finish of the lamp(s) should echo the strong finish and simple shape of the iron railings of the staircase -- if possible.

Perhaps a dark woven tray on the top level (between the lamps) and a dark woven basket (with or without suitable seasonal greenery) or a stack of dark leather-bound books on the lower shelf. Pewter items might work well here too.

I can see a large dried flower arrangement.

I agree with the mirror idea, though I'd prefer to see a round one. Then maybe a lamp -- I'd go a little larger than what Miles pictured -- on the left side, and then something else for balance on the other side (a vase, a basket or box for mail, whatever).

I agree with sueb20. a round mirror, and a lamp on the left side. Then do a small grouping on the right side. Maybe a small decorative chest or two stacked underneath.

Why don't you lean the mirror you have up on the table and show us a picture?

Maybe I watched too much Six Feet Under, I don't know, but something about the hurricanes and that little framed thing (and that large floral arrangement) remind me of a funeral.

I would prefer some art on the wall, a lamp and something personal and sculptural on the console (which is very pretty).

I would move that whole idea to the foyer, and perhaps put an attractive chair there with a smaller table, see link here lot's of pics. of entry's etc.

How about a large dramatic floral arrangement that mimics the rise of the staircase behind it, starting low on the left and getting progressively higher? A floral arranger at Michaels or some such place could do it.

That and a silver plate for keys and mail. Oh, and backlit by an uplight on a timer - it would be a shame not to take advantage of that outlet.

I have to admit I'm totally overwhelmed with good ideas. I will prop the mirror that i have up there tomorrow and take a pic. I'd rather use it if I can, but if it doesn't work, I'll look for a round one.
