Things are Slow, So Here's a Story

Since things are slow right now, so I've gotta share this.

My sister is marrying a man this fall who has been divorced for years and has three grown kids. Things were going along fine until they started actually planning the wedding. (Jennifer, does this have a familiar ring?)

My sister is now experiencing crazy ex-wife stuff -- you know, the "I own that house" game even though he bought her out in the divorce settlement years ago. And the kids -- "you're spending our inheritance on THAT WOMAN"! Oh my gosh! She hadn't hit any brick walls or seen any nastiness until now. She told me that she now understands what I've been complaining about and we had a few hearty laughs over this whole business. My sister once told me years ago that she would never marry a man with younger kids, only older ones. Ha! She now realizes that marrying a man with a past, be it an ex-wife and/or kids of any age -- means baggage and issues. :-)

She says she wants to answer the kids and the ex's comments, but my advice to her was don't do it. Let it go and ignore them. Even if you approach them with the voice of reason they won't hear you. After all, she's THAT WOMAN. (snicker-snicker)

"you're spending our inheritance on THAT WOMAN" .... a divorced friend of mine got that line form his kids. His reply was a cherry "Of course. Unless you want to move in with me, cook my meals, clean my house and cater to my every whim like she does." That shut them up.

It is so sad when kids become so selfish that they don't want to see their parents happy with someone else. I hope your sister's fiancee sets his kids and the ex straight before the wedding. If he has been divorced for years and the kids are all grown, why is the ex in the picture at all?

Thanks for all the kind comments! lalalandwi - I think PGB is so light because it has been so hot here, and this was one of the last blooms. The picture was taken in the morning, so it is not from sun fade. I think PGB has a "weather" color determining trait. The cooler the day, the stronger the color for me on this one. Jan - it is so nice to see clumps of blooms later in the season. Today I have two flowers on Earlene Garber... but I think they are the last two! :o( Navy Blues has been a great increaser for me. And a great bloomer. It is really hard to get a "color correct" picture of These Eyes, but that picture above captures it. In the morning it can look even a tad more blue-purple, but usually it looks like the picture. It likes to bloom three at a time for me too!

Hey Don, you mean shots like these? And just for fun, this one: Yeah, I know youÂve gotta watch out for sushi; all kinds of stuff shows up. Whale, horse, chicken, and some of the parasite laden fish like mackerel. With the mackerel (saba), if the fish is fresh then the meat is OK (so IÂm told) because the parasitic worms are in the fishÂs belly, not the meat. However, if the fish isnÂt fresh the parasites move into the meat hence you eat them. I know one fellow who was unfortunate and ate some bad saba. The doctor took a look inside with his endoscope and started laughing. He remarked between chuckles, "I can see the worm devouring your stomach lining!" Doctors have a strange sense of humor. I've been very unhappy with a new Rival crockpot--as you will see if you read up on the newer pots, they cook at much higher temperatures, which I've tested and found true. The new crockpot reaches boiling point in about 2 hours or so on high and maybe an hour or so later on low, and keeps the food at a full boil for the remainder of the time. I mean, you can just see it roiling! All of my usual recipes were ruined. That's completely against what I need for starting something before work and serving usually 10 hrs later. It does have the downshift to "warm," but again, that is only after pretty long fixed times on high or low. So it might work if you abandon the low setting and use High which allows a shorter time before shifting to Warm. I also considered an elaborate scheme of delayed start, maybe an hour or so, with one of those timers hooked into the plug, but it was too hard to calculate the potential issues with bacterial growth and kill temps. You can tell there's a change in the cooking temps, because all the recipes with the new pots say something like, cook 3-4 hrs on high or 4-6 hrs on low, or some such. You won't find any going 8-10 hrs. How does that fit into the typical dinner-after-work, I ask you. When I got the new pot, I put my old one in the church rummage sale--big mistake! I've since bought another old model at a flea market; however, so far it seems to cook a little "cooler" than my own old pot ( I know, I sound like the Three Bears) , and when I tested with thermometer, I'm not sure it gets hot enough on low for food safety. But I think it will work on high and stay below the boiling point. I've tried to read a lot of reviews of various brands and see if there is one that cooks differently to make another purchase, but there is almost no info readily available about the time to temp, or whatever. This might be available from a manufacturer's website or customer service rep. Still hoping someday my old Crockpot and I will be reunited....

Thanks! This will be the third growing season for the bed with the iris and for the long bed with the coreopsis in the foreground (that is the same bed that has the close up of the polemonium) but the rest of the pictures are from beds that are in their second year, yes. Actually, I expanded the one bed to connect with another and added that pink salvia in March, so I guess that section is first year. I keep adding as it still looks rather blank and empty when you take in the property as a whole. Anyway. I am glad they look good to someone else's eye - I think some of my neighbors think I am nuts. (Nice orderly green shrubs by the foundation with a pot of seasonal porch flowers, and a manicured lawn is the neighborhood standard, although I am not the only nonconformist.) I am continually inspired by the beautiful gardens I see everyone posting here!

Well, MIStepmom, you wouldn't believe it. It's so silly. My sister's fiancee has not spoken to or seen his ex for FOUR YEARS. Yet, once she found out he was getting married she called him! She accused my sister of contacting her and threatening her and she made those comments about the house, etc. My sister has never met, much less called, this woman! My sister's fiancee told his ex she was nuts and hung up on her. Now, part of this I blame on the dumb daughter -- she apparently dragged her mother with her to find a dress for the wedding! How dumb is that?

Yep, my sister's guy is surprised at what his ex is doing, especially after so many years with no contact. He told my sister "now you know why I divorced her" ...

And yes, he told the kids to butt out. He and my sister are doing a remodel on the house -- funny thing is that part of the money is coming from the proceeds of the sale of my sister's house! Yet, those kids accuse him of spending their inheritance. Go figure. How can some kids come out believing that their parents work their entire lives just to leave them an inheritance? I don't think so!

Well, I hope D's ex-wife doesn't get that way. At this point, it's just a little insecurity.....BUT that's where it usually starts! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn't happen! Actually, I've noticed she is getting social again... I think her latest and greatest ended so she is on the prowl! In this week alone, she has attended concerts, parties, and now she is at the beach jet-skiing. When life throws some challenge, she parties! Meanwhile, it is Sat and she hasn't claimed her children since Wed! But I am working HARD on letting this stuff go, so I will stop ranting.
I hope your sister's situation gets better. It always helps to have a husband/fiance who stands by you. Without that it makes everything more difficult. So I hope your future brother-in-law is doing the right thing by your sister. It totally seems like he is!!! And I think that the behavior of the children should be addressed. Their Mother can act like she wants, an immature whiney B*TC*.....but the kids need to respect her, no matter what anyone thinks or says about her. Their Father is the one who has to handle that....he needs to not only make these wise retorts, but he has to tell them that their behavior is unacceptable and never happened before, so what's the problem now? How old are they anyway?

Inheritance?!?! It's not an inheritance until the parents are DEAD - he isn't DEAD yet!!! His children have no more right to that money than I do at this point in their lives. What are they thinking? (They aren't!)
