I would be concerned that backer board will not be strong enough to support a footstep. Better to pickup those readymade cement stones from a HD or lowes. Nope not wood, but the backerboard will likely work for that. (you knew that)

and lastly, no I don't know where you put that cord! LOL

WOW Thyme, you're quick!! Yeah, I so knew that. Kinda thought about backer board as a stepping stone, too. Maybe I was thinking wall hanging plaque? I'm a little under the weather right now. =[ I won't say where I ate...just that I will not eat at that chain EVER again. Anyway, I forgot the other question. No, I mean I remembered it. (Maybe I should just go to bed and stop cutting glass!) I am making a garden decoration for my dad and stepmom that centers around a particular flowered tile. The tile is glazed (or whatever) onto the tile. I'm really not that new to mosaics, however, I have never broken anything with a picture on it on purpose. I was wondering how to do this. I really don't want to lose the integrity of the picture...just in case I bought four tiles! I would love suggestions.

Do you have wheeled nippers, as in leponnits? With those you can slowly nibble away the undesirable portions and work you way to the edge of the picture you want.

I have had luck trying to save the picture by barely breaking the item in newspaper. So I wind up with larger pieces, then just nip it into smaller pieces from there. The whole time keep putting it all back togheter like a puzzle or glue as I go.

This is humiliating!! I am looking over my posts and shaking my head over the editing. I'm a fifth grade teacher!! I hope my student don't ever see them. (They never will!) I really appreciate your advice and am contemplating buying a new camera to post pics. Very frustrating. I feel like a mouch; I gawk at everyone else's photos and can't share my own. I'll get it straitened out!
Thyme- I have a wheeled tool and then nippers. These are two seperate tools. Is this what you meant? I also have a wet saw since I tile (not mosaic) floors, showers, counter tops, staris, etc. So I think I will give it a try with my wheel scorer and make it look haphazard and random on the glazed tile.
I have been working on this gigantic, intricate urn to be made into a fountain since mother's day and I am making my self finish it before I start anything else. And I want to start on some other stuff!!!!!!!!! Problem is I have two of these urns and want them done exactly the same. I WILL finish my urn this week...and save the other one for the winter. Gotta get a camera!!

Well, good grief. If you have a tile/wet saw, want to save your picture, use THAT to cut your tile down to the picture. Another way to keep the boredom down, if making two identical things, is to do them at the same time. Guess it's too late for your urn, but for future projects, .......

Thyme- Where would I get the best quality for the money on wheeled nippers? Any chance at Hobby Lobby? I'd like to know b/c I an VERY interested in making more precise cuts.
Slow- I mean, duh about the wet saw. I just wanted it to look like "Oopsie! I broke it! Whatever will I do with this beautiful tile now?" I'm sure I could get the same look; DH is the one that typically uses it. I design and layout the tiles for projects, he does the cutting (I need all my fingers.) Also, I had the same advice for myself about doing both urns at the same time...however, I had just finished eight leaves that were so time consuming I could just not look at anymore green for awhile. And it just went from there. Besides, I'm learning a lot about what NOT to do on this particular piece so it will come in handy. In the future, I will simply not do things in doubles!! Wait, I do have two lions that will need to be done before next summmer. Hmmmmm...

Oh, sorry, KELLY - I misunderstood. Don't be afraid of the wet saw. The blade won't cut you like a regular saw will. When my HM touched it w/his fingers I nearly came unglued. He uses mine from time to time, and more recently to clean wall tiles of concrete/grout when I was mosaicing my b.r. counter. It works wonders for that.

slow you always give the best advice I have a tile wet saw outside and have also been a lil afraid of it but i would love to use it for something other than collecting cobwebs in the garage oh and kelly welcome and on the stepping stones one idea I actually got from this group about the stepping stones is to do the design in the bottom of the mold upside down and th pour the concrete in on top it comes out much smoother.

People please pray for me as I am bound and determined to be grouting my urn tomorrow. Well maybe not, I have my master's class tomorrow night...so...ok Tuesday. But no later. I have to get that thing out of my living room!! Plus, new ideas keep coming to me (this forum is dangerous!) I guess I will just take pictures with my cell phone. I complain about this urn, but I am very proud of it. And my pig planter.

GREAT idea!!! I'm getting to that point! I need to finish my urn and then I will get down to business on this. It's going to be a decoration for my dad and stepmom. I think it will be really pretty!
