Need help learning about windows

We have a 1920's house with (mostly) double hung 6 over 1 windows. Except for some of the sash cords needing repair, they seem pretty good and when cleaned look nice (though I haven't figured out a good way to clean them since you can't do it from inside). Several are a bit drafty however.

We are renovating a large part of the house and doing a new addition. So keeping many original windows but putting in probably about 35-40 new windows plus 3 sets of French Doors.

Here is what my architect specified for builder quotes:

Double hung Anderson 200 w/ permanent divided lites

Double hung new coattage style Anderson 400 w/ permanent divided lites

Casement Anderson 200 w/ divided lights

I assume from reading here and from architect that these are not the best windows but good mid range?? We have a lot of work on house overall, so every penny will count. Any advice on these windows, or what I should know about windows overall??

Do I assume correctly from reading This Old House, etc. that's it's cheaper and better to repair the existing windows (old windows better made??) in rooms we are not touching than to replace? On old windows, does it make sense to strip them down to the wood at this point?

Thanks so much in advance!
