Also in your other thread, you asked if you should bring the temperature up. This would suggest that you shouldn't. I have never had a problem except with an aquarium so this is baffling to me. I have also read that you should use salt to lower ammonia, 1/2 oz. of chlorine salt per gallon of water is recommended. Chlorine salt is best, but any non-iodized salt is better than nothing. Sounds like the gasket may need to be replaced or at least cleaned and oiled. Lime from water can build up there if you have hard water. I have never heard mine squeal but it does spit and vent for a bit until fully engaged. That's normal. I'd suggest cleaning in and around it well first and apply some vegetable oil to it. That often stops the problem. Also check the pressure regulator/weight vent for blockage and that can get plugged too. As to reprocessing. Jars and contents have to be hot when they go into the canner or the processing time is voided. So It all has to go back into the pot, be re-heated, re-jarred, new lids, and then fully processed. Not a dumb question by any stretch, well within reason, and you should request it. As a landlord, I change the locks between every tenant, without question. And I always inform new, prospective tenants that the locks have been changed. I also inform them that I have a key to the residence, and I'm the only one who has an extra key, and I'm registered with the police department as an off-site owner/key holder in event of emergency (fire, crime, etc.) . I can see with a vacation unit that the turnover rate is so high, it's not really feasible to change locks every two or three weeks. But if you're living there till the place it sold, that's different. It's just irresponsible in my book not to change the locks, and it's not all that costly (under $80 for changing front and rear tumblers).
