Reception Introduction

My fiance isn't very close to his stepfather. He has been married to his mom for almost 2yrs. At our reception does he have to be introduced as stepfather of the groom? Can it be Jane Doe, mother of the groom, escorted by her husband John Doe?

In my opinion (I could be wrong):

He is technically a stepfather if they are married, and he should be introduced as such. They don't have to be close. Some pople aren't that close to their bioparents or biosiblings yet they would be introduced as mom, dad, brother etc. For example you would not introduce your sister whom you aren't very close: this is a daughter of my parents.

You can introduce him however you want.
If you and FDH are more comfortable with "Jane Doe, mother of the groom, escorted by her husband John Doe" then go for it.

FDH is obviously an adult, and SF has only been married to Mom for 2 years... So he likely doesn't have a "father" role.
I think it's fine to do it the way you suggested.

I've never seen root rot on a jaboticaba. Mine, which are in ground of course, are in the lowest point in my entire property. There have been some multi-day rain events that have left standing water in this area for a full 10 days without any root issues. During dry season, I'll let the hose run completely flooding the area. That doesn't leave any standing water for more than a day, but I usually have to do it a day or two in a row before flowering commences. Good luck. Harry

Passing by and I wanted to make a comment... I had a complicated wedding process with many many people, ten years ago. If I had it to do over again, I would have simplified it greatly. I would have turned over more tasks to people who were dying to help. And I would have streamlined it as much as possible so that I could have had more fun. As to the ceremony...include the items that make your heart sing. Don't add anything that doesn't have personal meaning to you. Have it exactly how it's supposed to be,if ykwim. And that will be absolutely enough for your guests. Btw, at mine, I had some great music. I had no candle. I had no singing. But I had a minister that gave a beautiful sermon, and a place just before our vows where she asked our family and friends to stand and take a vow to support us to be successful in our marriage. Then we took our own vows and it was over. I had more than one person approach me and tell me that it was the most beautiful wedding that they had been to in many years. The point of it all is that although a big fancy wedding can be beautiful, it's the words that touch our hearts. Set this up so that you can really be a part of it. That your family and friends will be touched by the love that you and your soon to be husband have for each other. That they're given a lovely window into the deep relationship that you have which is why you're getting married in the first place. Allow others to help,even if the help isn't perfect, because everyone wants to be a part of the dream... And keep it straightforward enough to minimize complications so that you can fully take in and enjoy the meaning of this wonderful day. Blessings...

Hi Islander, I understand how hard it can be to let things go, and I'm sorry. When I got married, I wanted to have both parents walk me down the aisle, but didn't because I didn't want my SM to feel uncomfortable. I picked out my mother's dress, which did match the wedding colors, but told my SM what the wedding colors/shades were so that she could match too. My BM and SM sat together in the first row. And no, they do not get along! My SM was included for pictures, and although I would have liked to have pictures of just me and my parents I decided it wouldn't be worth the hassle. I agree with a poster above in that the wedding is about taking your vows. Everything else is just fluff. I tell my girlfriends getting married to expect things to go wrong, do not expect perfection, because all that matters at the end of the day is that you accomplished what you set out to do, marry your love. If uncle so and so gets drunk, if your bridesmaid forgets her dress,etc, none of that really matters in the long run. And you'll have a funny story to tell from it. Why not tell it to yourself that way? Here, let me tell it, I can imagine it from sitting in the back 40! Remember when silly BM made that spectacle and took DH's hand? the look on his face was priceless! I couldn't tell if he would deck her or run like the wind! Thank goodness he keeps his cool so well! My wedding had a lot of drama, and I wish people could have stayed as calm as you did. It can be so hard, but the good thing is that while it only lasts a day the impression you make can last a lifetime.

Update: they've decided against the resort for lots of reasons, some logistic, some esthetic, mostly they just couldn't "see" a wedding there in their respective mind's eyes. That last is probably the most important qualification or lack thereof.....I think DD was looking for a place that would make her say yes, this is a place I would really like to have a wedding, and that would make her want to have one We have backed out of the planning/ viewing / discussion process. We told the couple we would give them X amount of money to do with as they wish and have offered an engagement party here at home in the spring, probably May. I think they will likely just elope in early December. Last night some of our city friends hosted a dinner party in honor of their engagement. It was lovely amd DD and DF enjoyed themselves very much but have strongly discouraged or simply refused all other offers of parties, luncheons or showers. Much to my mother's disappointment!

My stepson has introduced me as his mom's husband, I think that's fair enough since I've only known him as an adult.

I introduced my mom's hubby as her husband, not as my stepfather. I am 28 and they have been married 2 yrs.

I don't really consider him my stepfather---just her husband. I don't think HE even considers himself my stepfather. Anytime I introduce him to people I say "this is my mom's husband, _____."

If the relationship is not there, it could be awkward for both sides. This is my dad and his wife Jane. This is my mom and her husband John. How can they be offended? they are the husband or wife of the parent.

My wedding invitation read:

Ms.Jane Doe

and

Mr. & Mrs. John Doe

Request the honor ... etc.

It all depends on what everyone is comfortable using. I wouldn't change it just for the wedding. If you wouldn't say it any other time, why stress out over it for the wedding. There are plenty of other things to stress over... like matching shades perfectly!

Actually, I think your idea sounds better. Or you could just skip the introductions completely, which is what I did.
