I helped my father make wine during my entire youth. He had upwards of 1000 ginger ale bottles (still have over 500 with wine in them dating back to the 70's), and I helped him cap many of them using a simple hand press with beer caps that were lined with cork. I just opened a bottle of 93 vintage today, and it tastes beyond belief good. He never added sulfites to his wine, just pure grapes, fermented in a wood barrel for a year then bottled the next year. So, an occasional bottle would go bad, and it would land up in the vinegar barrel for some of the best vinegar to be had. So, old fashion cork beer bottle tops, if they can still be purchased, seems to be a good choice. Actually, the cork I took off this bottle was cork lined and said Lemon Lime Soda on its top. Who knows where he got these corks things from. Oh, he stored all the bottles in a cellar, just standing up. Of course, there was build up on the bottom of each bottle that was not drinkable. One just carefully poured from the storing bottle, into the serving bottle to not get any of the stuff which had built up over the years at the bottom of the bottle.

I have kitchen plans for a 24"built in under counter Bev Fridge. I have tripled my appliance allowance and realize subzero probably is a good choice but trying to stay closer to $1,000 with builder price discount. Uline has one that does both and looks nice enough, but the shelves for the water bottles don't roll out for easy access and loading. Will mainly use it for water bottles/flavored water bottles so it needs to be taller than just cans. I also don't want it to be too loud. Prefer the stainless look with the wood edge wine shelf. Any other options out there?

I would think if it exploded, there would be wine sprayed much farther than if it just fell on the floor. You need a forensic detective, lol! I hope your floor isn't destroyed by wine stains. And I do think, if the wine wasn't fully fermented before bottling, that it could build up gas if it became warm enough and possibly shaken by transporting it. It wasn't homemade wine, was it? LOL! Chloebud, you remind me. My people are split between wine people and water people. When wine people bring a bottle to an occasion with several different botlles open, I'll usually have them put it on the table for all to share. I rarely know anything about this new thing, but wine people can usually be trusted to bring something some will like. this once, however, I wasn't seated near such a bottle, which was about three quarters gone when I got some. It was SWILL. Tannic, tes, but also acidic, sour, nasty...maybe a bit uric? Just awful. I was so embarrassed! and worried that so much was gone and my guests would be thinking I'd lost my mind. Until I found out that one of the ”plus” people of one of my guests had accounted for most of the bottle, with the guy who brought it on the rest. The former lady apparently is more into drinking than wine. ;)
