Nightstand suggestions (shapes, styles, materials) for this bed?

I'm not looking for you guys to search the internet for hours on end & find exactly perfect night stands, but I need guidance. We bought this bed:

King size, 81" wide:

There are nightstands that match, but I don't like them because they are too matchy and fairly wide (almost 2' wide). Also, I think I'd want more storage if something is going to take up a cube of space like this.

This is how the catalog shows them together - I think the horizontal element is emphasized too much. Plus, see the books on the floor? Not a good thing IMHO. It creates hiding spaces for dog fur dust bunnies to live:

What kind of nightstands SHOULD I be looking for? The rest of the room/furniture has a lot of oak in it (white oak floor, quartersawn white oak antique dresser) and white (white trim, white wardrobe doors). Walls are BM Pale Oak, which is a neutral greige.

Or rather, what kind of nightstand would you put with this kind of bed? I'm going for a collected but up to date look. I like things with a slight industrial edge, but not full-on steampunk. Here's an example of a table I like, but think is just past my comfort zone:

Any ideas on what to pair with this bed? The wood is unfinished teak, which I might wax to add some protection & a little depth to it. It's from Crate & Barrel (not super expensive, but will hopefully hold up well). I'm unsure if I should look for something round to balance the squareness of the bed or avoid round/oval because it would be too much contrast.

Last bit of info, the metals in the room are black (door knob, overhead light fixture, etc). TIA if you've gotten this far :)

OMG - what a goofball I am. I have been working so many hours and am so short on sleep - sorry I didn't include the link for the lamp. It would center over the bed, so the art would move. It is a bit on the modern side, but I think might be very cool in your space: giclee retro lamp You can see that they have the shade for sale alone, as well as other styles of the lamp with the shade at the bottom of the page. I like how it picks up your colors, including the taupe/beige squares that echo your bedding and window treatments. Do look at their selection of lamps. Many have free shipping, and they have tons of plug-in wall lamps that don't have to be hardwired to work. Seeing your floor plan, I would be inclined to flip the bed to the opposite wall, and let the dresser be on the wall by the closets. Seems like you could put the dresser a bit to the left on that wall, and still fit in a nice chair in the corner near the window. Thanks for moving the pillow! LOL

I ended up not getting the upholstered headboard as both the color and condition were not the same as the pictures when I went to see it in person. This weekend however I found a few more pieces from a family that was downsizing, but now I have quite a bit of mahogany. Sorry, I'm just realizing how blurry the picture of the chest is but it's solid mahogany again with a serpentine front. I have 2 bedrooms on the 1st floor I'm wanting to redo so I could split up the furniture as both rooms are about the same size (roughly 12' X 12' with 9' ceiling) with original 1930 wood floors. So I'm thinking it would be good to split up the furniture, and add some rugs and lighter colors to break up the mahogany? I did order this ivory velvet quilt and shams so far for the bed. For paint colors, I was thinking of a pale blue for one bedroom and maybe a green-gray for the other?

hello Paulina. While choosing a lamp for nightstand a good rule of thumb is that the diameter or width of the lamp should not exceed half the width of nightstand. It looks neat geometrically. For shapes, choosing the lamp in the shape shape as bed can enhance the appearance of both bed as well as lamps. There are in reality thousands of shapes for lamps. Since your nightstand is so close to the wall try something round to balance the boxiness of room.

My advice is to skip that set in a minute, it is not complementary to headboard‘s color or style. Start with the furniture/decor and then consider bedding that would suit and also appeal to any age or gender. I’d also check out consignment shops/thrift stores for some great furniture pieces. Restful and calm should be the aim. If you search Pinterest for modern tropical rooms, you’ll see all kinds of ideas for furniture, rugs, lighting, art and finally bedding. The easiest is a white duvet or coverlette and layer with colorful cushions.

I like the Proof nightstand on the link that yayagal shared. Also like the black one, but not sure the wooden legs are the right tone for your bed. I think your idea of metal is good. Pretty bed, too!

Some of these can be rickety, but I love the flip-up sides for extra table top room.

Wow, you guys ROCK! I expected/hoped for "go with metal, not wood" but I got awesome selections :)

Pal- I love the hospital-esque cabinets, they would be dog proof and both DH and I used to work in hospitals eons ago. So these would be a nod to that.

Yayagal & Cyn427 - from CB2 I like Proof, too. I wish it came in black or charcoal, the dulled stainless is pretty but might be too bright. The Harvey cube in charcoal could work and it's really inexpensive. That would leave adequate cash to get some king of storage box for the bottom shelf

Fun2BHere - the MCM teak tables are gorgeous but still a little blocky - and at $1500 i would have to love them unconditionally ;). The cubes were amazing, the teak on those just glowed. Wow. They were a steal, too, at $680 for the pair. The metal cabs you linked were ... In a word ... Perfect! I loved that they would add some color to the space and loved the proportions (a little tall, but I could maybe make it work). The only issue I have with them is the price, for $1500 I would have expected the seller to clean up some of that oxidation. But you know what? I would spend that on something I loved and thought was worth it (these would be, if they were cleaned up). I think that's the upper limit, though. Psychologically I have a hard time spending more on the nightstands that the bed (even though there is more work involved to make a nightstand, I bet).

I think I'm going to start scouring Craigslist for metal typing tables, though. After seeing the one Fun2BHere linked to, I noticed some have different brackets on the bottom that could support a wooden shelf (I can make a shelf, right?). At least for my side of the bed ... I like the industrial + feminine legs + nod back to when women were secretaries or nurses. It makes me chuckle (an ironic, "you have no idea how much progress didn't happen because of your narrow minded ways, you idjits" kind of chuckle).

We are thinking of getting that bed for my teen son's room. I love that bed. I, too, don't want the matching nightstand, but for me it's because I don't think it will stand up to my son in it's unfinished state, and I don't want to deal with giving it a finish that will stand up to him.

This probably won't work for you (because it's not the style that you are going for, and probably not the color, either, and doesn't provide a lot of storage), but we are considering this one from west elm. The color of the nightstand looks a little off on my monitor, but IRL the wood tones match the bed pretty well. We would also get the dresser from west elm to pull it all together.

Metal typing stand. Add a shelf to the bottom where the support is and you have it.

Stores that sell used office furniture often have them.

No advice as to style, but the ones in catalog would not be comfy. Too low to easily set down a drink or a book. A bedside table needs to be just under or just a bit higher than the bed, I believe
I like mine that are just a few inches under.
