Anything you've decided is a waste of time to grow?
Comments (48)I havnt had much trouble with anything ive grown. Radish grow fast here, any pea ive grown or seen grow like a weed ( till july when they burn), I had 2 huge cauliflour heads last year. Even my dill was over 6 feet tall! I had 2 cherry tomato plants that wouldnt stop producing, even after a few weeks of frost. Ive given the succes of radish and peas here because of my cool spring, and abundant sunlight. Cool crop veggies do well here, so im hoping spinach and broccoli do well The only thing i havnt had luck with, was carrots. That was due to me planting them weeks to late ( I now know this). Beans do very well here, so do all types of squash ive seen. Pumpkins are hit or miss here. It can get quite moist here, and sometimes cool in the summer. So its a gamble each year. All types of berries grow naturaly here ( blue, raspberries, black berries, serviceberry/saskatoonberry, elder berry etc). There is a lack of good fruit trees here, because most of the city is rates zone 3 ( im lucky enough to be in the zone 4 or 5 microclimate the lake creates. Ive only ever seen apple trees. Ive never seen a sweet cherry, or peach. But there are apperantly apricots here....See MoreOkay...about to bite the bullet here...
Comments (6)I dreamed and drooled of gas since DH told me we were moving (a decade ago *gasp*) I have always had natural gas; here I would need propane. Our rental (prior to purchasing our new-to-us-home) had propane fridgidare stove. UGH....NOT like my nice natural gas, but still, better than electric. Our now-house had electric cooktop (Ge profile)...DETEST is not a strong enough word. We had the propane guy come out and quote a tank and lines (we plan to do a propane fireplace, so simply an extra line and switch off for the stove. I dreamed and drooled of my GE monogram rangetop (You can probably find countless posts I have narrowing down my gas cooktop). I was so close that I even put the item in my "basket" to order on line (ge store; ge employee discount). We decided to wait 48 hours so I was sure. I actually did order a propane DCS on ebay (long story short, had to return it and the vendor was BEYOND sweet, kind and worth working with). Not sure what clicked in my head but figured there would be less cost with lines and we could just get a 30" and pretty much drop it into the replacement spot. I WILL NEVER DO GAS AGAIN. This is so clean; so responsive; so sleek. I do wish I did not have to give up $1000s of $$$$ of my all-clad brushed aluminum, but overall, with all of my Le Creuset, this was THE BEST decision I made. Maybe if I were starting from scratch (we had planned to build), I would not have considered anything else, but since we bought ready-built, this worked out and has a nice end to the story! LOOOOVE IT!...See MoreHow long did it take (is it taking you) to decide?
Comments (9)Second time around for me in 5 years so I have the benefit of hindsight also popping in and out here and reading. What's most interesting is how much is new. OTOH new isn't always better because, in the end, the service issues can be very affecting. I'm still having them with a built in fridge f.ex. 5 years later. Physical restrictions helped this time. Things had to fit in certain spaces, space is tight and certain things will and won't work. I spent 2 weeks looking and researching. I've got quotes and made my decision, which won't change. I did drawings of the new plan and had a virtual rendering done as well to see how the new color and tile and counters looked with the appliances. I'm very pleased with choices. What helps is knowing what you want and being able to budget around that. What I didn't find helpful was info/judgments given to me by salespeople. I spent time emailing folks here on old threads to see what their experiences have been over time. They all answered quickly and were incredibly generous in their comments. Having the same input from 2 or 3 people you don't know but who say the same thing more or less based on their every day experience was the most helpful to me in my decisions....See MoreLast Question before I bite the bullet--DUCTS
Comments (1)I would be concerned about 20 year old ducks too! They usually don't live that long. If they die in your air conditioner boy that would send some kind of stink down into the living space. Definately have him get rid of the ducks. :-)...See Morebronwynsmom
