What To Do At The Dinner Table

Is it appropriate to have table games at a wedding, I heard of this being done. How do you pass the time while eating to make it interesting.

I've never heard of it, and I would find it silly and intrusive. People don't need games to "make it interesting" when they go to dinner at a restaurant or attend any other kind of party -- why do you feel they need organized amusement at a wedding? People pass the time by talking with each other, as at any other time. And at a wedding, there are also times when they are listening to toasts or dancing.

Don't worry that your guests will be bored. Even if I were a guest at a deadly dull table, I'd rather be bored than forced to play some contrived game (and I happen to love games -- not everyone does).

I totally agree with Gellchom. As a wedding coordinator, I have never seen table games played at a wedding. Generally, you eat, visit with others at the table, listen to toasts, watch the bride and groom cut the cake and do their first dances. Once the general dancing begins, you will have something to focus on. If your wedding will have no dancing, guests will get up and visit with others that they haven't seen for awhile.

I had some left over salmon from the freshly caught stuff from my neignbor, a handful of Swiss chard from the garden just picked and some left over spaghetti pasta.....I sauteed the chard with onions and garlic, added the spaghetti and just heated the salmon to the perfect temperature. Then I squeezed some freshly picked lemon on top and loved every single bite.

After the big Thanksgiving dinner, what do you do?

When all of our family (that lives here in town) always got together we would set up 3 or 4 tables and play pitch. Some would go through the paper to see what items they were going to head out for on Black Friday. and others would just sit and talk. But now each family has grown and we kind of just stayed with our own family. After losing 4 family members last year it went that way. I'm not liking it...I miss getting together with them all. My daughters are going to their spouses side of the family this year so it will be just our son and his girl friend with us tomorrow. One daughter will be coming later and we will have a game night Then on Saturday we will have another Thanksgiving day with the girls and Jeff if he wants. lol....aren't you sorry you ask. patti

Such a variety of lives-I love the little peeks at what all of you do! We are staid boring boomers who eat between 6-6:30 while we watch the evening news. Have done that forever, it's just our habit and now that we are retired it has not changed. At the other end, I wake up usually around 6 - 7 am and MUST have breakfast immediately. I truly marvel at folks who don't/can't eat in the morning. I get physically ill pretty quickly if I don't get some nourishment first thing. I figure it's probably due to my genetic glucose management body system; lots of diabetes in the family and though I don't have that I do have some hypoglycemic tendencies. I get shaky, headaches, then nauseated if I go too long without breakfast. For me, annual fasting bloodwork is a nightmare especially now that I live 50 miles from my lab. This summer there was a mixup and I didn't get the blood drawn till 10:30 am, after waking up at 5 am and getting to the lab at 7:15(!) I always take orange juice in a cooler and wash down a couple of tylenol with it then go get a big lumberjack breakfast somewhere, but bloodwork days are lost days-I feel horrible no matter what.

The only table it is OK to have some games and other entertainment arranged for is if you have a kids table. The other guests are adult and should be able to practice the art of conversation.

OK, that sounds harsh, but true!
