Memorial to Loved One

The bride's sister passed away, is it appropriate to dedicate the wedding ceremony to her with a separate page exclusively for her with her picture, or is this too obituary like?

I haven't seen that done before in a wedding program, a section dedicated just to the deceased. The majority of the weddings I have been to represent a deceased loved one with a white rose up at the alter or podium with the bride and groom. The minister, priest, JP, says something about the representation at the beginning of the ceremony. NancyLouise

It is appropriate to briefly mention those who have passed on in the program, but to dedicate an entire page to her with a picture might be a bit much. If she passed away recently, then having a memorial candle or bouquet is appropriate with a brief note in the program explaining the significance of the item. If she passed away a number of years ago, then limit it only to the note in the program. Again, if she passed away recently, it is also appropriate to leave one seat empty with a white rose on it. The bride can place the rose on the chair when she enters. This is quite common when parents are deceased.

Very touching story. I had a friend die after a long bout with cancer. She had requested a Dynamite crepe myrtle be planted at her church which we did. She was a Dynamite lady w/ a spirit as bright as the red of that trees flowers. She was always game for any tomfoolery I planned for our garden club and particpated up until the last month of her life. Anyone else growing Bamboo in our zone?

I posted this last week in the *Bamboo Forum* since I posted here, with hopes to learn from similar zone, gardeners ... I thought to post this update here, as well. Alan1 suggested to visit the sites I mentioned below ... 'thought would be helpful for those contemplating on acquiring some ... zone5 compatible Bamboos. to Alan 1, I responded to thank him, for his wise suggestion to visit Michigan Bamboo Co. as well as Needmore Bamboo Co. for more info, about Bamboo-growing in our more trying zones! Quoting Needmore: "The reality of Growing Bamboos in Zones 5 & 6" particularly ... I quote: "I've recently come to terms with my 'zonal denial' and I accept that most springs I may have to clear cut nearly all of the previous year's above ground growth".& "I live on the edge of zones 5b/6 and in an average winter the temperature will fall to at least -10F. At these temperatures nearly every species of my bamboo collection will likely suffer total leaf loss and in all most cases, total top kill of the culms." He also warns wanna-be or "new Bamboo growers" of other realities for at least 5 years! Reading through, I had to face the fact that at 72, I may not have the luxury of enjoyment, since I already have 12-16 high to near-high-maintenance, Garden Divas + a female Ginkgo tree to enslave to!!! Â:( ... I have several & love planting, remembrance/memorial plants that are meaningful & symbolic ... my baby brother lived in the Orient all his life ... what more beautiful & symbolic plant than a Bamboo, I thought!!! His name is Henry & July born, so my other choices are a *Clethra-Little Henry* or *Ivory Halo - Cornus Alba* red sticks in Winter (for July)! There were many encouraging Bamboo virtues ... "resiliency" particularly, but for the emotional/sentimental reasons in my search, for a meaningful & symbolic memorial plant, at this stage of my gardening life ... I'll have to forego, Bamboo! Putting Up The Tree

Friday went pretty well. I even went to a Christmas snack party (LOL) with my fellow employees. I only went for the last half of it and someone picked me up so I didn't have to go alone. There were lots of hugs and questions about Aaron and I got through it without crying. Gary set up the Christmas tree while I was gone. He put lights on it Saturday morning. I expected Saturday to go fairly well but it was a Cryday for me. I made a wreath for Aaron's grave marker from the bottom part of the Christmas tree. It was nice to take it out to the cemetery but of course we had to cry some. When we got home Gary went to the store and I was going to sew or wrap presents. I put the ornaments on the tree instead. Most of them are personal ones and I cried cried cried every time I came to one of Aaron's. I was going to share them with the rest of the family but I just can't part with them. I didn't put them on the tree yet. Then I just started missing Aaron so very much. I was alone so I cried some more. When Gary came home I told him I just can't bear not having Aaron here. I cried some more. I went to church with Gary and with Aaron's wife this morning and I have cried a lot today. I just feel so overwhelmingly sad. I can console myself by knowing he is with the Lord but that doesn't stop me from missing him. I still can't believe he is never coming home again.... Carol

Sweet Pea & Nancy L, I think yur ideas are very good. Those are wonderful ways to remember the sister, but not with a page.

We had a tiny wedding on the front porch of our historical home. Two chairs were set up, one for my deceased grand father and one for my husband's deceased grandmother. Each chair had a framed photo and a flower. So they were there in spirit.

It is a wonderful idea to remember those that were close to us and couldn't be there for us on our special day. Some just light the candle, or you can buy inexpensive gifts for your wedding party in memory of the loved ones that are not with us for that day. why would I give my friend the bridesmaid a gift in memory of my sister?

If I'm the bridesmaid, I want my bridesmaid gift to be about my relationship to the bride, not about her recently deceased sister.

if you're going to advertise ont he forums, which isn't allowed, at least make sense!

I agree with talley sue, if you want to advertise your items for sale there are places on this website to do so. It isn't allowed on the forums. Giving bridesmaids gifts is about the friendship between the bride and her wedding party. Giving gifts in memory of a deceased loved one would seem a bit odd to me. NancyLouise

If you are Catholic, you could mention her name at the appropriate time during the wedding ceremony.
