I clean them out well, fill with M&M's or nuts and make a personalized label for the front (I use PrintShop and then cut and spray glue to the glass). I usually use a picture and their last name (i.e. Smith's Winery). The link below will give you a idea, although there are a lot better websites for ideas if you do a search.

well although I did not do it I had planned on building a greenhouse this summer with one wall a cordwood wall and using
bottles for a window in that wall .
have you ever seen the house(s) built from bottles.
this was a question on g.j. once and some real good ides came up.
folks use them for edging and many other things.
with the adhesives available stacking them and glueing them is an option.
I have always thought of stacking them and mortaring and forming cubes then using the cubes to form ??
chairs , benches, tables , bases for tables or birdbaths
or just using a group of 3-4 glued then stacking them with a plate seperator then forming a base or mortaring them in 3,s around a 5ft. pc. of conduit to form a base for a yard light.
the cube idea was the best though and i still see a solid glass bench being made this way .
although I don,t drink I did some calling around and every place I called said I could come and get all the champagne bottles after new years. that could mean hundreds if someone really wanted them .
I actually worked out a very simple way to make the cube
and possibly filling the bottles with colored water for effect . hope I did not confuse you more Rick

If you have access to a kiln, you can fire them. A lady had a display last year in the mall. Couldn't keep them supplied. The bottles flatten (across the bottle, not from the top down) the label stays. They can then be placed on a plate rack, hung on the wall, or laid on a coffee table. My DD bought two and went back for more but the lady said she no longer had access to the kiln. Works with beer bottles and other bottles as well.

Great ideas! LOL, you didn't confuse me, Rick. I can see the possibilities. Very clever. I mostly use the wine for cooking, so I have a great variety (different shapes and colors) that I've collected over the years. They're just too pretty to throw away.

i've seen mobiles made from the flattened ones. they make a pretty sound.
i think it was martha who showed edging in a garden that was inverted champagne bottles, on an angle & buried nearly to the neck. the bottles were from a daughter's wedding reception held in that very garden.

I have used beer bottles and others smaller ones for candle holders. I'm sure it will work for Wine bottles, too. Just buy some taper candles or use ones you already have. Take a knife or something and cut chunks off the bottom until they will fit in the hole. Then I tie some sort of fabric scrap around the neck and sit either by themselves or in groups.

If you can get access to a bottle glass cutter, you can cut out the bottoms of pretty coloured bottles, make a wire holder for a tea candle that goes inside the bottle (hooks over the lip of the bottle at the top), and then hang them up in a window. At first sight it's not apparent that there the bottle has no bottom, and people will wonder how you go the candle inside...

I heard of an undertaker (sorry, "Funeral Director") that lived in British Columbia, I think, who had a lot of embalming liquid bottles on hand and used them to build a house.

Could be the house was well preserved?

You can drill a 1/2" hole at the bottom of the bottle. Then put a string of 20 or 35 mini lights in it. Put a cork in the top. You now have a night light. You can decorate the bottles with jute, ribbons, etc. These sell for around $15 to $20 at craft shows.
