Ornament Hangers

If you have a string of beads that's broken, or a beaded tree garland that broke, use the beads to make matching ornament hangers. All you need is a spool of wire, a pencil and a marker to curl the wire around, and a small pair of pliers. I used beads from a 9' bead garland that matches my decorations.

I love the ornament hangers...was thinking about making some since I saw some on the holidays forum...just haven't gotten to it yet.

Those hangers are so cute!! You seem to come up with something different every day or two!! Never thought of taking garlands apart until I saw all the stuff people do with them on here. I found our Dollar Tree it's only about 5 miles away!! Jan

I made something similar to this several years ago. I used a pearl hat pin. (you can find these in craft stores) drill a tiny hole in the nut. Place some craft glue on the end of the pin and press the pin thru a piece of ribbon and then the nut. Cut the pin to the desired length for the nut. The ribbon is then tied and used as a hanger.

Thanks so much,Ya'll! How cool is that, Patti! This would be a great craft to keep your grandchildren busy while their Mom is out Christmas shopping. And they'd have very nice gifts to give to family. DH bought a spool of wire for $3 and I paid $2 for the garland I took the beads off. I'm sure you can find cheaper garland at Dollar Tree or Dollar World. here is another way to make them that I liked better, using glue to hold the beads on instead of crimping the wire. What gauge of wire for ornament hangers?

I used 18 gauge, it works great. As a matter of fact....I totally forgot I made those hangers til yesterday morning!! It immediately made me so tired to think about it!! I spent a few hours putting them on the tree, and they are the perfect for any kind of weight, but a little small. Some of my ornaments are heavier glass. If you want the ornament hanger to be seen as part of the tree decorations, I'd make them longer than the 5" I made mine. You can't see most of them. I didn't have my tree up when I started making mine, and did them the size stated on the sites I saw. Oh, and I curled the ends with my small needle-nose pliers BEFORE I shaped the wire around into an "S" shape. Use something round to wrap it around for your "S" shape, I used paint pens, a screwdriver handle, paint brush handle, just find something the size you like, this makes it faster and keeps the shape uniform on each one.

I quickly went through the boxes last night and didn't see them. There were some green coated wire ones that were shaped like funny W's. This morning I looked in a box labeled Trash and there were ornaments with similar hooks attached. Not the same thing but if you're interested I can stick them in an envelope for you. There isn't many but may be more in the other boxes. They're destined for the trash anyway so let me know.

Ya'll are so sweet! Thanks:D I made another version of hanger that I like better. You'll be gluing your beads on instead of crimping the wire. Photos on my blog with how-tos. I've already made over 25 ornament hangers with plenty of the garland beads left over! DH bought me a spool of 20 gauge wire for about $3, so it's a very inexpensive craft, but beautiful and functional, and children can make them quickly and easily. If you need a craft to keep the kids busy while Mom is Christmas shopping, this is it! And they can make gifts for everyone with their limited budget :D

Oh, and I just gave my gold beads to an artist I know. Oh well. Love your pointsettias from ribbon too!
