ideas for bowling ball case

Think I had seen ideas for the bowling ball bag before, but have forgotten. Went to a yard sale up the street on Saturday late and no one had wanted the bowling ball and case. The ball was beautiful, color of red, my favorite color, and looked so pretty in the sun. I have several with pennies and stones, so I decided to leave this one just as it was. This is the first time I have gotten a case, please give me some of your creative ideas. Thanking you in advance. Hallngarden

If you are using it outside paint it with something to waterproof it.Maybe the stuff they use to waterproof the little overalls used for planters?? Sit it beside the bowling ball and put a pot of flowers inside.Or turn it on it's side and stick the BB halfway out as if it is rolling out of the bag and maybe add a few plants spilling out around the ball.Find an old pair of bowling shoes to sit beside it and stick some plants inside.That's all I can think of at the moment............Lillie

I pick up the cases for storing lots of things. Mainly, I use one to keep in the trunk of my car to hold maps, flashlights and batteries, toliet paper, soap, etc.

My DH keeps our cat toys in another. I haven't used on outside yet. A big plant, though, would like charming coming out of the bag. Just set the pot inside.

Yup I agree, don't try to make the tape so uniform in one piece, use smaller pieces. Nice pics of the bumblebees!! I also agree that the edges where the colors meet doesn't have to be absolutely perfect. I would do an "up and down pouncing" with the "scruffy brush" (check out Donna Dewberry One-Stroke Paintbrushes at Michael's or Joann's craft stores or Walmart) on the color edges and I bet it'll look awesome. I'd also do about three or four layers of thin paint rather than trying to cover it in one or two layers. The scruffy brush is oval in shape and the bristles are about 1/2 inches long. You can make one actually by cutting down the bristes on a paint brush till they're about that height. What are you using for glue ritaweeda? GE silicone II works well. I have a penny covered BB I made into a fountain and I have four other balls in my garden. Two with glass stones two w/o. I found a large rot iron candle holder at a garage sale and buried it in the ground. It holds my BB very nicely. In the spring it may list a little but I just pack the dirt with my foot. My two w/o stones are colorful but they are fading. They sit under oaks in my shade garden but still the color is slowly fading away.

Well I had them in the car still, so I ran over to my parents' house & my dad helped me. He's got a drill press & we used a really big drill bit (1 inch). It was easier than we thought. I had no idea what was in the middle of the bowling ball, turns out to be some kind of plastic or resin type material that wasn't very hard to drill through. You could do it with a regular drill if you have a large enough bit, but it would be more difficult. You'll also need someone to hold the ball still & be very very careful. My dad was holding the ball steady & he was wearing heavy gloves just in case. When I told my husband this morning that I was headed out to the bowling alley to get some BBs, he gave me a really funny look. He wanted to know what the heck I'm going to do with them. I told him just wait & see. He scoffs now, but he always likes my projects in the end. I learn something every day. Today I learned how to drill through a bowling ball. I also learned it's fun driving over speed bumps with a box of bowling balls in the car. LOL Virginia

Bowling Ball Bubbler Member Barbu gives us her directions: I drilled a bowling ball from both sides, starting in the thumb hole. This was a green ball w/green half marbles glued on. I used aquarium sealant just because that's what I had. There is a 22 gal black plastic container (from Lowes) in the ground. We put 2 cement blocks on end, put the pump between them, covered the whole thing with hardware cloth (a hole in the middle), ran the tubing up through the bb, which is sitting on a short stand thing purchased at Goodwill. I covered the hardware cloth with rocks. We keep it running all winter with a bird bath heater. Caution: The ball said something about ceramic core and, sure enough, there was a ceramic core that could not be drilled! Lucky for me the drill bent to the side and met up with the hole from the opposite side. I'll probably be more careful next time! Member luvsroses adds this winter freezing caution: The freeze and thaw could very well crack them. It depends on what your bb is made of. Rubber ones will sometimes crack left out in the freezing weather, the plastic ones will sometimes crack if left in very hot direct sun. I think Barbu's does ok in the wintertime because of the birdbath heater. It's better to be safe than sorry later and I think it's a good idea to bring the balls in during the winter. Make a hanging planter out of it. The handles should be strong enough for just about anything. Or is the thing really ugly? You can paint it, glue stuff to it, put a face on it and arms and legs.

I use my bb bags also for the car and one for our dog's food,toys & etc for when he has to go to the boarding place when we go out of town for a few day or when he can go with us, this way everythings there, food, toy or what ever. His own suitcase. The people at the Bording place really had a laugh the first time I used it.

I used a white bowling ball case for an accessory to a 4th of July costume I did. left most of it white added red and blue paint stuck tons of red clear and blue star rhinestones on it and have a wonderful purse for the 4th have used it in 3 trashy fashion shows so far. I have a beautiful purple bowling "gazing" ball in my yard that came in the bag
only paid 2 bucks at a thrift store for the whole thing

can i make a suggestion? the clients at special olympics would love to have their "own" bolwing stuff. if it is a lighterweight ball you could donate it and the bag and make someone very happy.
