I recently saw the glass totems at a local garden show and would like and am trying to make my own. I just finished this evening trying to "glue" the pieces together using GE Silicone II (only I used the type for Kitchen and Bath -- my husband picked it up for me) -- don't seem to see a great deal of difference in reading the labels other than the mildew issue, but perhaps you have more input as to why the Window and Door type is better. When you use the sealant, how much do you apply and how long does it take to set up (the label doesn't provide this information -- with the multiple pieces the complete totem seems like it will be quite heavy and will require a really strong bond. I am just so afraid of not having the bond hold strong enough when moving it or placing it in the garden. I thought I'd give as gifts, but I would be horrified to have the pieces fall apart easily. I also thought of using epoxy, but the application of having to mix the two parts together doesn't sound feasible -- especially if I want to make several. Any advise you can give me would be most appreciated. Another question, you mention re-rod for the post -- will the totem sit straight with just the re-rod stuck up through the bud vase at the bottom or how do you do this application. I am so thankful for your help. I love the photos -- they are most helpful as well. Many thanks in advance.

1st, I'll be posting one of the teapot totems later today, just need to add the drips & final beading. THIS is my best one yet! 2nd, I'm fortunate to have a flea mkt right near me - auction every Wed. What doesn't sell is usually left for "free-time". Occasionally, someone will buy a whole row & I'll pay 25-50 cents for a teapot. (I get all my "junk" this way) The picture is not my whole stash, just needed to lay some out to get started. For totems, you don't need lids - that's what usually breaks & no one wants just the pot. 3rd, nonacook - I'd love to know what to do w/ lids too! I do have one windchime in mind.

That little flamingo if very cute! It would be nice if he was a bit higher. I'm going to take apart my Fourth of July totem cuz I made it in the heat and set it in the hottest part of the garden and a piece or two slid. I'll let you know how it goes. Love your totems and I like the grouping. I have 2 finished and am waiting to gather enough glass for 1 more because I think they look best in 3's. Gotta wait till I find more glass pieces at the right price..........as this is supposed to be fun not a crunch on the budget!!! My faves are the cut glass ones with a little color throwed in.
