The other types and allot others should have been out but I'm way behind on my budding here since I can't find any help that truly knows how to do things. I have over 10,000 rootstock that will be getting budded and should be ready as liners this summer

You can go to the Harvest Forum here at Garden Web/Houzz to read all kinds of posts about the different brands of pressure canners and who likes which one best and why. That is the forum where all the canning experts hang out. Once you go the the Harvest Forum you can do a search and pull up oodles of old threads on pressure canners. One of the most important things is to be sure you buy a pressure canner, not a pressure cooker. They are not the same thing. One suggestion I'd make is that you buy one of the larger ones. Don't buy the smallest one available to save a few bucks because it will cost you more in the long run since it only will can very small batches. If you're having to do twice as many batches because you bought a smaller canner, it costs you more in time and energy costs in the long run. I have a Presto and have had it for decades. Before that I had a Mirro. However, most of the canning that I do is simple water bath canning because the foods I prefer to can happen to be the ones you can using a Boiling Water Bath/canner. I simply freeze (we have three deep freezers) the items that most people can in a pressure canner because we like the texture of veggies that have been frozen and then cooked better than those that have been canned and then cooked. With potatoes, I don't can them. I just store them in our tornado shelter and they last for many months that way. With each type of food that I preserve, I choose the preservation method that works best for the way we ultimately like to eat that food item. We like our potatoes fresh, so I don't can them. If we liked canned potatoes, then I'd take the time to can some of our crop. I use all the various food storage methods (canning, dehydration, fermentation, freezing and root cellaring), but not all methods for all foods. At the website of the National Center for Home Food Preservation, you will find all the government-approved and safety-tested canning and other food preservation methods. You should never deviate from the approved methods because that's a quick way to potentially harm or kill somebody with improperly-preserved foods. I cannot emphasize that enough. Safety always has to come first.

Hi there, I definitely hear you and really believe that in the grand scheme of compulsive shopping that plant buying is pretty darn harmless. It obviously makes you (and me!) happy to have a jungle of plants. What I've done about small apartments and low light: - moved. Really. I left a 300 sq ft apt 10 minutes from work for a 1000 sq ft in Brooklyn 10 miles from work mainly because of my plants. I'm not saying that's the best idea but my plants are really happy here! - Built window structures. In a couple apts, I've put up shelves in the window to have multi-tiers all close to the window. When making, take into account the height of your current plants and also how tight your window is against cold window drafts. I have done shelves inside the frame but I do like the way this looks outside the frame. - Buy a plant stand. While I have a lot of space, my light is low during the winter so I recently invested in a multitiered plant stand with see-through shelves. You can get cheaper ones around (I got mine at my local hardware store) that will work. A friend uses a kitchen-like stand that she got on the Bowery. - Lights. Think no more about it and go out and buy them. If you like plants and have low light, just go with it. You can buy cheap fixtures and plant lights. I have both a tiered lighting system for seeds and multiple single and double reflective clip-on fixtures (the ones you'll see at the hardware store around the corner). - Hang more. You know the rule in NYC - if it doesn't fit hang it from the ceiling! I find that the best examples I've seen on multileveled hanging plants are from decades-old magazines that I've picked up at garage, library sales. So, I can't find any pictures online. By placing multiple hooks in the ceiling, plants can be hung at various levels. You can buy (or make) some interest hanging structures that can crowd together to look really great (and jungl-y!) - Low light plants. Many plants don't need to be directly by the window in order to thrive. Some of mine that have bright light but no direct are: ferns, ZZ, dracena, corn plant, peace lily, pothos. When I move the plants inside in the fall, the cacti and succulents get the first good window spots. Everything else gets a place that could work and then I just watch it to see how it grows.
