Any one cook on a pro style range?
Comments (15)Katie: I know it's been a bit since you asked about Aga Legacy, but I feel I must post this for anyone else who comes along. We bought a Legacy 4 yrs ago and have hated it ever since. Looks great, that's all. 1st, the range burners don't heat evenly- when we have a saute pan on, the rt side of the pan cooks hotter, we've tried adjusting the feet etc, but to no avail. Also, since it has 2 separate ovens and a separate broiler you would've thought we would have realized that meant there would be no full size oven. Can't fit a standard baking sheet, let alone a turkey in any of them. The larger oven also doesn't heat evenly. A sheet of cookies comes out wonky. I have to stand by and turn the sheet every 3-4 mins. to make sure all the cookies are the same color. Also the kickplate falls off constantly even tho we attached a super strong magnetic to it. The range top is very hard to keep clean. The only thing we like about this stove are it's looks and the separate broiler, which by the way works great. We are moving in 2 weeks and I can't wait to get a new stove for our new place; the Aga is conveying. If you have any recommendations for our NEW stove I would love to hear about them....See MoreI'm not a gourmet cook but want a pro-style range
Comments (20)Hi, Weissman, I do plan to do something here...this is not right! Like you said, I think it's illegal, too! I asked this woman on the phone (the number they make you call to start) and she couldn't be bothered with anything....can you say "Lazy"? But, neither she (nor I at the time) had any idea whatsoever what the heck would have been wrong, therefore, how could she tell me that it (the warranty) would not be honored?? Go figure. I think the deal is that I live in a small-ish city (180,000 people) that does not have a warranty tech that works here. (There is one that would work on my Lacanche Sully! But not GE Monogram??) SO, they have to wait until they have enough warranty work to fly some guy from Dallas to my town, put him up in a room, and let him work non-stop on all the cases. Could take months to do this! Can you believe that? This is enough of a reason for me not to ever purchase from them again! And, why do they even sell them here if this is the case?? But since I got someone to come service it they won't honor the warranty anyway...even if I can pursue it...because it was not by one of "their" reps. I do not like warranty stuff because of all the little technical details that always come back to bite you. Our new house warranty? Oh, gosh....that covers almost everything...but certainly not the refrigerator! That, of course (and we didn't know) was an extra! Go figure! I believe they call it Murphy's Law......See MoreSmall pot cooking on pro style ranges
Comments (3)Ok - you don't need the high power on small pots - they will heat up just fine at medium low settings and probably a lot faster than on your old range. The high power settings are great for woks and large stock pots. I do most of my cooking at the medium setting or lower - the trick is learning how low to set the burner not how high. When you do need high power for wokking or boiling water for pasta - it's there for you! By the way, the flame can extend a little beyond the bottom of the pot - that's the nature of sealed burners - you just don't want it shooting way up the sides of the pots....See MoreNeed advice - pro style range question
Comments (2)We received a propane unit instead of a natural gas range and the flames were really high! The orifaces for propane are much bigger. I suggest checking the size because you may have received a natural gas range. Also many ranges have some adjustment in the burners....See Morecrl_
