Good ideas!!! What kind of paint do I use though???

Hmm..I don't do much decorative painting - just spray painting. :-) Hope someone else can tell you which paints are suitable for glass.

Enamel paints work best on glass - although another poster here swears by acrylics. I use Folk Art Enamel paints.

Thanks, craftylady, I bought some at JoAnn fabrics yesterday. Hopefully I can get started on them. Too many projects-so little time!

Here's what we did with some old windows. One is done using gallery glass in the panes and hooks mounted on to hang towels on for bathroom.

The other is for framing pictures of ancestors that I scanned.

The third picture is a door my DH made from them for our greenhouse.

Mojo, Your window is so pretty. Are you painting on top of the glass? If so what is the background? Or are you doing "Reverse painting"? Really like the way your window turned out.

Shortcut, those are really neat projects. Love that greenhouse room! The gallery glass one looks beautiful and what a great idea to make it functional by adding the hooks. How will you attach it to the wall? My favorite is the one with the ancestors pictures! What a terrific idea that is!

I paint free hand on top of the glass with enamels then use spray paint on the back to give it a almost stain glass effect....I do all kinds of pictures animals etc...I just love painting....just finished a vintage....villa style window.... english roses and vines gonna use it for a head board...

shortcut: how did you mount the pictures in the windows? Also we have a Hobby Lobby that just opened here. Can I get the Gallery Glass there and are there books to teach me how to use it ? Is it difficult ? THANK YOU Caroline

Trailrunner, I got my Gallery Glass at Walmart, but I believe Hobby Lobby also carries it. There are books that teach it. The hardest part is the liquid leading which you need a steady hand for, but they also sell ready-made leading that is easier to use. It's actually quite easy and peels off after it dries if you make a mistake.

The pictures are copies of the real ones that I glued on foam core board and cut to fit the panes. I didn't glue them in the panes, just fit them in there - you need to cut them to fit so they stay snug.

I don't have the windows hanging now, but I think DH just hung them like a regular big picture, but if you have small kids then I would want something sturdier I guess.

Shortcut-Love the windows/door. Very, very pretty. I've looked at Gallery Glass since I know I will never glass mosaic and was leary about being able to do it. Your explanation above gives me the courage to try it. Thanks
