Mojo - Go to "paintingonjars.com" a website by Cindy Trembley. She is one heck of a decorative painter and I've taken an on-line class with her. She has a few painting books out on the market (sold at Michael's for one place). She did a lovely painting on a wooden ironing board.

A real quick thought here, put shelves on the board and use it as a display for nic-nacs, plants, whatnots. Put door pulls/knobs on it and use to hang - well, hangy-down-things, hee hee (I thought that was cute, so I'm giggling).

Use it as a sofa table behind the sofa or cut the legs down and make a coffee table??

I like that this is low to the ground, and not in the middle of the wall. I'm figuring I could mount it next to the entryway door, and use the top of it as display space. Or, I could add a deeper marble shelf there (maybe using thresholds from Home Depot), and set a basket for mittens, or whatever. The drop-down ones are nice, too--but they just make such a big impact. This looks much more like a piece of furniture. Our building has a dumb-waiter in the hallway, and I'd hoped this would fit below it--but it's a bit too high. If we ever decided, as a bldg, to eliminate the dumbwater option, I'd be investigating how to put an ironing boar in the dumbwaiter. In that spot, the board would completely block one of the kitchen doors, and sort of make the rest of the hallway hard to use. But my intent for this would be a 5-minute ironing of the shirt I want to wear today. I can do touch-ups w/ the small folding ironing board, but it's just so much more involved.

Ideas for a Wooden Ceiling After a Skylight Has Been Removed

I wish that I was able to show you pictures of a finished ceiling, but we have yet to be successful with contractors after their initial visit. One of the issues with living Up North. The size of the skylight is no longer available, which we learned after waiting months for a contractor to "get back to us." We even called the Velux manufacturer for suggestions, but the closest certified installation person was three hours away - they won't come this far. We decided the next step is to remove the skylights and are currently waiting for bids. The thought process is to remove the wainscotting in the loft and use the lumber to repair the holes in the ceiling after removing the skylights. Hopefully, the wood tones will be compatible, and we will not have to paint the ceiling. Plan B would be to replace the entire ceiling with new wood. The roof will need new shingles to avoid a patchwork look. I will post if there is good news to share! Good luck. I am interested in hearing if any of you have had success.

Hi again Keri, My neck hurts just looking at the picture of your tv. What you might consider if there is enough room is getting a cabinet where the tv can be mounting inside and a remote brings it up into the open for view. I saw the construction of such a cabinet on youtube at one point but don't have the link. I have one that I bought used sitting in my garage but it has more cabinets with it and is fairly large. It's the same idea though.

wood floor in kitchen area? is that a good idea ?

Depends on your life style. When I remodeled I ran the new wood floors through the kitchen for aesthetic reasons and I was similarly "nervous". It has been six years and they still look fine. I do take care of them in terms of wiping up any splotches as soon as possible. Mine are a high quality engineered wood and even with a bit of carelessness aren't the worse for wear. There was one spot where evidently something had leaked from a bag and had hardened without my even knowing it was there. It came up without any damage to the wood. But as I said I am not a pig in the kitchen. Also - FWIW - grit is really the enemy of wood floors of any kind and so vaccuming regularly so that the grit doesn't abrade the surface is critical for wood - but that is everywhere and not just the kitchen. Also I installed water alarms for my dishwasher and water for the ice maker. They would shut off if there is any start to a flood. Also Smittie pans. I did this for my washer/dryer as well.

Mojojojogrinj, If you paint it, will you please post a pic over on the decorative painting forum too? I have one that was given to me, but the board has a split in it that I need to glue and clamp before I can use it. I thought about a santa, then thought about birdhouses on posts--just couldn't decide what to paint on it--so haven't done anything yet. Luvs

thats where i am at lol I actually love the way it looks as is....its white with chippy spots and you can see the orignal red paint through it..... usually i see something and instantly i have a picture in mind.... this one is like well if i paint it this way it has to be open...if i paint it this way has to stay shut lol so i might just leave it as it is....
