KKNY, how do you remind your DD about the holiday? I have vets in my family, however, they tend to be somewhat closed-mouthed. I personally like movies such as Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers, We Were Soldiers, etc., but they are sometimes a bit graphic although we have watched them together. Do you have any other ideas?

Attend a local parade or commemerative ceremony. Call a vet and thank him/her for his/her service.

Yes...Happy Memorial Day all! We were thinking about taking the girls to the Air Force base here in town and watch the air show:)

I send my nephew an email to Thank him and let him know we are thinking about him, miss him & love him. He's 19 (joined the army when he turned 18) and is stationed in Iraq. I have an American flag on the back of my quad. While it's a day to celebrate and remember those that have died for our freedom, I also think it's a day to celebrate those freedoms. Veterans Day is to celebrate our Veterans, although they deserve more recognition than they get.

We have a lot of family that was or is still in the military. We try to have a family bbq, which this year is at our house. So we will be busy with that one day and the other day we are going to the zoo with my sister and her kids and then a bbq at a friends house. So we will have a fun and busy weekend. Hope you all enjoy yours!

Well, we were going to the beach but opted not to (maybe I'll post on thought issue?) so we're going to tear apart a bathroom instead. We just moved into our newest project house and so most weekends will be spent this way from now until eternity.

My dad is a vet, and I'm giving him his favorite thing this weekend to thank him for his service . . . his grandkids!! :-)

I have bunch of war vets in my family, not US army, but it really makes no difference since the cause they fought for was the same. unfortunatelly all of them are gone, the last one, my grandma passed 2 years ago.

we are going on a trip up north for memorial day break but when we come back, I plan on going to a cemetery and bring flowers to my grandmother's grave.

we have a birch tree by her grave, we usually sit there for a long time remembering grandparents, all other ones are burried far way, but other people go there to give their respct. my grandparents were very special people. it is hard to comprehend what they had to endure in their 20s.
