ikea kitchen cabinets odor

hello....i recently installed applad cabinets, and they are beautiful. i think i like them more than some of ikea's more expensive cabinets...at least for the space i put them in.

my big question.....they have a vaguely unpleasant odor that is beginning to bother me. they've been up for 2 months now.

has anyone noticed an odor, and will the odor go away?

i especially notice it when i open pantry-probably because that is the biggest interior. it is a sweet chemical smell. i've never really smelled anything like it before, but it's reminiscent (in my mind) to dog pee on a wooden floor - not quite that bad maybe.

thanks to anyone who knows anything at all about this or has heard anything....

I have had new cabinets for about 2 months, and not noticed any smell (and I'm pretty sensitive to chemical odors). I don't have Applad though, so maybe it's that particular doorstyle. I would ask the question on IKEAfans and see if anyone has experienced it.

Have you asked on IKEAfans? Like it's name suggests, there are loads of IKEA knowledgeable people on there who might be able to answer your question.

I did a quick search there on "odor" and "cabinet odor" and didn't come up with much, but you should check it out and see if you can find some help.

FYI, the cleaner I posted, along with Nature's Miracle and several others works via enzymes, I believe, and actually eats away at the odor - so, does not cover up odor, gets rid of it. And, again, it gets rid of cat urine and I'm pretty sure that if something gets rid of cat urine it can get rid of anything.

I don't like wood blocking/support for sinks, no matter how many manufacturer's You Tube videos show it. Wood shrinks which can cause leaks and cabinets don't need additional support anyway. Stainless steel, composite, and acrylic sinks should be strapped in place with a Hercules Universal Sink Harness (Braxton Bragg) or a Sink Strap or two from Regent Stone Products. The exception is a cast iron or fireclay sink, which should be installed with a Pete's Sink Mount kit. Unlike wood blocking, stainless steel never shrinks and remains adjustable after installation.

Got it. What about getting something without operating hardware? Or using painted aluminum for the countertop (IE like entry level patio furniture). We just finished a fully Bodarp kitchen and used the Europa finger pulls by Top Knob. There were a few instances where we had to route out the Bodarp drawer fronts, but by and large we were able to work with the drawer front height to get all the finger pulls to fit. We love the look and functionality. Definitely took some time to finesse and get right.

I have IKEA cabinets and so do many people I know...I have never heard of any odors associated with the cabinets. IKEA environmental standards are set to the German requirements, and they are the toughest in the world.

What do you normally keep in that pantry?
