Well Robert(o) I've been waiting to see a reply to your post but it's been a few days and no one has answered you yet so I thought I'd give you my 2 cents. I am new to growing brugs but have admired them for many years. I always thought you had to have a tropical climate to grow them, but I now understand that they overwinter very well in the basement. They go dormant then when you put them back outside in the spring they pick right back up. At least that's what I've been reading and hoping. I just got my first few cuttings this summer and I'm looking for a couple specific ones to add to my small collection, and I'm hoping that they will be just like the ones I see in the books. I've even read recently (I think on this forum) that you can cut the trunk right to the ground and put it in a bucket of water in your basement and it will go dormant but also grow roots to be planted in the spring. I can't wait to see my first bloom! I hope that someone with a little expertice answers you soon, I want to hear their answer also. Roxanne

I can imagine you ambling along gardens as you go from one to the next, much like other people go antiquing. I have never been able to visit gardens while on vacation due to strenuous no votes by the family. I go to New York often, my sister lives in Yonkers, and I just may go to Wave Hill on my next trip up (she stamps her feet and says). I read a book by a woman in Canada, can't remember the name now but it was basically about having no lawn -- turning the entire yard into beds or paths, etc. It was a great book (I really enjoyed it) and it also conveyed a little of the feeling of more green-space awareness. Lastly, you say Carmen "still flower gardens 1 acre." That is an inspiration to us all. I just love the image of the lupine, irises, daylilies, various tulips, peonies, etc. in rows. I had my wedding reception at the Red Coach Inn. We were married by the Falls on the American side. That was 2001 and while the park area next to the Falls on the American side was nice, at that time the American side was practically a ghost town. Very little to do - very few shops or restaurants open at that time.
