rosefolly, just wanted to chime in and maybe suggest researching m7 rootstock for your wonderful gift of apple trees. i do believe they will bear a bit faster than emla111,don't have to be staked and are smaller and should be a bit easier to maintain. i do have 1 apple on m7 and it sure is growing well in it's second year (lodi). personally for my endeavors i'm primarily using seedling,antonovka and emla111 ( would try bud118 if available) as my main considerations are drought resistance,size of tree (high browseline) and no staking. i think m7 would work in my situation but with an avg. year of 2 months of no rain,sun and no clouds with drought years of 4 months of no rain etc. i just don't think it's worth the risk. in western pa. i think though it may work for u. something to consider. regards, wildlifeman

Yes, that trip was great! And, much later on, we were towing our travel trailer thru Gettysburgh in the downtown area. My dear wife dropped something out of her purse, opened her door to look for it, and promptly dropped the purse out of her door, scattering everything onto the street! Well, that caused a great tie-up, with much horn blowing, cursing and gnashing of teeth! One guy offered to tar and feather us (Not really, but the nasty looks we got made us think of that!) She finally got everything scooped up, and off we went. and then, there was the time in some medium sized town in PA. We had just gone around a blind bend, when the emergency brake pin on the trailer came out suddenly! We stopped so quickly, i almost had a heart attack--and so did some of the drivers behind us! Ohh, we wore out our welcome right quick! And, i got the pin back in and LEFT! And, the time i backed the trailer bumper into the grille of a really nice 85 Chevy owned by a Navy man in uniform! OHHH ! And that was at a work area, with alternating single lane traffic! I jumped out to go back to see what happened, and lo and behold, the left rear tire on the trailer was hissing . And we had traffic all snarled up! I left our son with the guy and his family, got the trailer to a spot i could park it, then went back, got his car off the road, took him into town to get a tow truck, took my tire in to get it fixed, and finally got our son back! That bit happened near Bennington, Vermont! Camping fun, eh? By: Rustyj

Here's what my nephew/Gettysburg expert recommended (he's very into Gettysburg ghosts, so a lot of his recommendations are haunted :-) The Cashtown Inn. They can get lunch or dinner there (might need reservations that weekend) or they don't mind people stopping in just to look around. If they don't want to take a guided tour (they are very good), they can instead get a tour CD for their vehicle from the visitors center. The new visitors center/museum is only a year old and something they should definitely check out (along with the newly renovated Cyclorama). The Jenny Wade house is an interesting place to take a tour of and if they're interested take the ghost tour later at night. The Farnsworth House Inn has a great bookstore. Sachs Bridge is also a must see. It's easy to get to but they may have to ask for directions as it's a couple miles away from the battlefields. Nice place for a picnic.
